Major Industry Shocker As Chronicles of Spellborn Gets Pushed Back

Spellborn International has announced that it’s MMOG-in-progress, The Chronicles of Spellborn, has once again been delayed.

A message posted on The Chronicles of Spellborn website says that following a review of the first round of closed beta tests, the gameplay mechanics and graphics are “mostly completed,” but that the development team has decided to make changes to the server infrastructure. “In reworking the tools and the network code, Spellborn NV now wants to ensure that the flow and performance of gameplay live up to the general expectations,” the message said. “At the same time, the developer will lay the foundation to allow for quick expansion of the game, with new content and updates, once it is released.”

The delay was initiated by distributor Frogster Interactive, who revealed it has signed a letter of intent with “a renowned MMOG publisher” as a potential partner for the U.S. release of the game but said a successful introduction to the market will require at least six months’ lead time. “As a consequence, both Frogster and the developers of Spellborn NV have decided to initiate the revision of the sever architecture and to use this time to prepare for a coordinated worldwide release of the game,” the company said.

The previous delay came in March, when Frogster announced it had been pushed back to the second quarter of 2008 in order to accommodate more large-scale testing. The game was originally targeted for launch in the second half of 2006.

The Chronicles of Spellborn is now being targeted for release in fall 2008. In the meantime, the developers said another 100 members of the community had been added to the closed beta testing, which will continue “for the time being.”
