Despite the 360’s poor performance in Japan, Microsoft is pressing ahead with software produced by regional gaming stars in a bid to win converts from competing consoles.
The company has announced Team Ninja’s development of Ninja Gaiden 2 and Square Enix’s unveiling of two other new titles, Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant. Also joining the pack is a Mistwalker game which will see a December release in Japan.
The 360 has been outsold by more than 2:1 by the PS3 despite a head start of over a year and has also been outmatched by the Wii by a more than 7:1 sales factor.
Microsoft officials have nonetheless expressed determination in the past to improve their Japanese performance by working with local developers and learning from others’ success.
