Modern Warfare 3 Not Getting Prestige Edition

If you were hoping to get some extravagant trinket with your Collector’s Edition of Modern Warfare 3, then you’re going to be disappointed.

Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling has revealed that Activision won’t be releasing a “Prestige” edition for Modern Warfare 3, and will just have a standard and “Hardened” release. Bowling let this information slip in response to a fan question on Twitter.

In the past, the Prestige editions of previous Call of Duty games have included some fairly extravagant extras. The Prestige edition for Black Ops, for example, came with a remote-controlled car, and Modern Warfare 2 had a pair of night vision goggles and life-sized plastic head to put them on. For Modern Warfare 3, fans will have to settle for the Hardened edition, which contains – among other things – a year’s subscription to Call of Duty Elite, Activision’s new social service for the CoD franchise.

Bowling didn’t give any indication about why Activision had decided to forego Modern Warfare 3′ prestige edition, so we can only speculate about what’s going on. It could be that Prestige editions don’t sell as well as Activision would like, or it could be that Activision wants the emphasis to be on Elite with Modern Warfare 3, rather than some bundled-in trinket – it’s not impossible that it’s a little bit of both.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 comes out for the PC, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 on November 8th.
