Namco Bandai Details Tekken: Blood Vengeance Release

Tekken: Blood Vengeance, the latest film based on Namco Bandai’s beloved fighting game series, is headed to American theaters next month.

To be fair, the film is only receiving a limited release. Outside of the latest trailer stating the film will appear in “select theaters nationwide,” there is no official word of how many screens will be showing Tekken: Blood Vengeance. A safe bet would place the film in the country’s major film cities (New York, LA, Chicago), before smaller population centers.

Speaking of that new trailer, it also mentions that these screenings will be in digital 3D. Depending on your stance on Hollywood’s latest gimmick, that could be great news.

Those of you unable to find a theater showing the movie, can also catch it in the comfort of your own home. Namco Bandai has announced an upcoming PlayStation 3 release dubbed Tekken Hybrid that includes the film and a high-definition remake of Tekken Tag Tournament on a single Blu-Ray disc.

Tekken fans will recall that Blood Vengeance is actually the third film adaptation of the King of Iron Fist Tournament story. 1998 saw an anime iteration that was equal parts hilariously weird and weirdly hilarious, while Hollywood took a shot at the property with 2010’s laughably horrible live action Tekken film.

I don’t know that Blood Vengeance will fare any better, but given the creative team behind it — the film shares a screenwriter with the Cowboy Bebop movie, and is animated by the people responsible for the technically gorgeous Appleseed series — I maintain a bit of optimism.

It helps that the new trailer is quite pretty:
