Nearly Everything We Know About the Uncharted Movie Is Apparently Wrong

There is supposedly a lot of confusion surrounding the Uncharted movie, but exactly who is confused remains to be seen.

If you’ve been crying onto your controller about Mark Wahlberg’s casting as Nathan Drake and the “family dynamic” that writer/director David O. Russell wants to introduce, you can dry your tears, as apparently, none of it is actually true.

In an interview with Joystiq, Naughty Dog’s Justin Richmond said that all the so-called “facts” about the movie are nothing of the sort. According to Richmond, who is the director for the third Uncharted game, Russell was as baffled by the idea that he wanted to put a family dynamic in the movie as everyone else was. He even went so far as to call up Richmond and say that he had no idea what the LA Times – which first published the quote – was talking about.

What’s more, Wahlberg has not been cast as Nathan Drake yet, despite his comments to MTV news that suggested that not only was it a done deal, he was helping with the rest of the casting. It’s possible that Wahlberg has signed on as the movie’s producer – as he did for Russell’s last film, The Fighter – which would explain why he’s trying to recruit the likes of Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro. It’s not clear what his actual role in the movie’s cast actually is though, if indeed, he ends up having any role at all.

It’s hard to know what to make of this information. There’s no reason to think that Richmond is being untruthful, but at the same time, there’s no reason to think that the LA Times or MTV are either, which means at least one person is mistaken. Hopefully, we’ll find out who very soon.
