What do you get if you cross Vampire Survivors with a casino? Slot Machine Gun, that’s what

Lakeview Games has announced Slot Machine Gun, a new roguelike deckbuilder shooter where your weapon is exactly what it sounds like: part gun, part slot machine – already this sounds like a cool idea to me, who’s a huge fan of the Survivors genre.

The Swiss indie studio revealed the game with an animated announcement trailer, released to coincide with Steam Bullet Fest, which runs from June 8 to June 15. Slot Machine Gun is currently planned for PC, with a 2027 release window.

The core idea is pretty simple. Players wield the sentient Slot Machine Gun, an ever-changing weapon that spins up a new combination every time it reloads. Instead of simply topping off a magazine and getting back to work, each reload effectively becomes a pull of the lever, generating a fresh mix of weapons, effects, and synergies.

That means one run could quickly spiral into absolute bullet hell nonsense, with the devs promising more than 1,000 possible combinations. The studio says players will be able to build their gun out of different weapons and effects, with the goal of creating huge, overpowered builds

Slot Machine Gun is described as a blend of roguelike, bullet hell, deckbuilder, and top-down shooter. It is also set in a “crime-ridden chempunk city,” where players will meet strange inhabitants, fight enemies and bosses, and try to uncover the mysterious origin of the sentient gun itself. Frankly, if you have a talking gun with a gambling problem, you should probably ask where it is you have been, never mind the gun.

The risk-reward side of things seems to be a major part of the game, too. Players will be able to accept harder challenges for better loot, spend earned coins on “almost fair” slot machines, and generally decide how much they want to push their luck.

There will also be unlockable weapons and characters, each with their own special abilities, which should help give runs a bit more shape beyond simply hoping the slot reels land in your favor. The pitch is very much about learning how to bend the odds, rather than just relying on pure luck.

There is no firm release date yet, but the game is currently targeting PC in 2027.
