The next mainline Persona game was officially announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, where Atlus showed off a short teaser trailer and confirmed the first proper details. It was not a gameplay blowout. It was basically nothing other than it’s coming, but at least it was something for fans of the series to grasp on to.
What it did confirm, though, is enough to start building a clearer picture, even at this early stage. Persona 6 is a new standalone story, it has a new cast, it is coming to modern platforms, and it appears to be taking the series into a darker, greener, more ominous place.
Here is everything we know about Persona 6 so far. And we will, of course, update this page as new info comes through over the coming months (and years!)
Persona 6 has officially been announced
Persona 6 was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, alongside a new showing for Persona 4 Revival. That alone is the biggest piece of news here, because until now Persona 6 has lived in the Twilight Zone. Everybody knew it was coming, but nobody dared confirm it.
The reveal came through a short teaser rather than a full trailer, so Atlus is clearly not ready to open the floodgates just yet. There was no combat demonstration, no menu showcase, no social link montage, and no massive story explanation. Instead, the trailer provided one thing – atmosphere.
What is the Persona 6 release date?
At the moment, Persona 6 does not have a release date.
That is the most important caveat around the reveal. Atlus has announced the game, but it has not given a specific date, month, or even a proper release window. So, while it is tempting to start penciling in 2027 because of how the rest of Atlus’ calendar is shaping up, that has not been confirmed.
There is one major clue, though. P-Studio director Kazuhisa Wada has said the team looks forward to sharing more of the work going into Persona 6 for its release after Persona 4 Revival.
Persona 4 Revival is currently scheduled to launch on February 18, 2027. That does not automatically mean Persona 6 is coming in 2027, but it does strongly suggest the new mainline game will not arrive before the Persona 4 remake. It could, worst-case scenario, even stretch to 2028, so by then, our new alien overlords will be able to enjoy it.
For now, the honest answer is simple: Persona 6 is announced, but it does not have a confirmed release date.
What platforms will Persona 6 be on?
Persona 6 is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
On PC, it is listed for Steam and the Microsoft Store. On Xbox, it is also part of Xbox Play Anywhere, which means players buying into the Xbox ecosystem should be able to move between Xbox console and PC with supported saves and ownership.
There has been no Nintendo Switch 2 version announced at the time of writing. That may be disappointing to some fans, especially given how well Persona has taken to handheld play over the years, but for now the confirmed platforms are PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Is Persona 6 coming to Game Pass?
Yes, Persona 6 is currently listed as coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one.
Xbox’s own showcase recap lists Persona 6 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Game Pass, and Xbox Play Anywhere. That is a pretty big deal for a new mainline Persona game, particularly given how long the series was previously treated as a PlayStation-first franchise in the West.
This continues Atlus and Sega’s much broader approach to Persona in recent years. Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 3 Portable, and Persona 3 Reload all helped push the series beyond its old platform habits, and Persona 6 looks set to continue that shift from day one.
What is Persona 6 about?
Atlus has not revealed the central plot of Persona 6 yet, but the official description does give us a framework.
Persona 6 will tell a completely fresh, standalone story with a new cast of characters. It will once again mix everyday life with supernatural danger, which is basically the Persona formula at this point, but the early wording suggests Atlus is not planning to abandon what made Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5 work.
The game will be set in modern-day Japan and will once again feature school life, friendships, romance, and the process of building bonds with other characters. As ever, those relationships are not just there for a bit of downtime between dungeons. Atlus says every relationship you nurture makes you stronger, and every bond you forge becomes a weapon against the darkness.
That sounds like Persona, then. Go to school, make friends, maybe fall in love, and then spend your evenings staring into the abyss with a group of emotionally damaged teenagers and a supernatural murder problem. Normal stuff. It happens in the park near me every night.
What does the Persona 6 trailer show?
The first Persona 6 teaser is short, moody, and extremely light on specifics.
The trailer shows a rain-soaked graveyard covered in green fog, with the camera eventually focusing on a large central grave marker. There are no party members shown, no clear protagonist reveal, and no gameplay footage.
Still, there is one detail that Persona fans immediately latched onto: the color.
Modern Persona games have always been strongly associated with a signature color. Persona 3 had blue. Persona 4 had yellow. Persona 5 had red. Persona 6 appears to be going green.
Persona’s color identity usually says something about the mood of the game. Persona 5’s red matched its rebellion and heist energy. Persona 4’s yellow suited its warmer, small-town mystery vibe. Persona 3’s blue fed into its colder, more existential atmosphere.
Based on the first teaser, Persona 6 might be moving closer to something darker and more unsettling. The graveyard, the rain, and the green fog all suggest a game that may be less stylish rebellion and more haunted mystery. This is all educated guesswork, no more.
Who are the Persona 6 characters?
Atlus has not revealed the Persona 6 protagonist or party members yet.
The official description confirms a new cast of characters, but we do not currently have names, designs, voice actors, or Persona identities. There is also no confirmed mascot character yet, which means we must all live in fear until Atlus reveals whatever marketable little creature is going to yell tutorial advice at us this time.
What we do know is that Persona 6 is being positioned as a fresh standalone story. That means it should not require players to have finished Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden, or Persona 3 Reload before jumping in.
That has been true of most mainline Persona games for years, but Atlus is making the point very clearly here. Persona 6 is being sold as both the next chapter for longtime fans and a potential starting point for new players.
Will Persona 6 connect to Persona 5?
There is no confirmed direct story connection between Persona 6 and Persona 5.
Atlus has described Persona 6 as a completely fresh, standalone story. That means fans should not expect it to be a direct sequel to Persona 5, even if there are almost certainly going to be references, Easter eggs, DLC costumes, music packs, or some other nods to the wider series eventually.
That is how Persona generally works. The games share concepts, mechanics, themes, and occasionally connective tissue, but the numbered entries usually stand apart from each other. Persona 6 appears to be following that same route.
So, no, this is probably not the return of Joker and the Phantom Thieves in a new full-scale adventure. It is the start of a new cast, a new mystery, and a new nightmare for Atlus fans to overanalyze frame by frame.
What do we know about Persona 6 gameplay?
No Persona 6 gameplay has been shown yet.
However, the official description confirms several returning pillars of the series. Daily life is back. School life is back. Relationship-building is back. Romance is mentioned. Supernatural adventure is mentioned. Personas are, obviously, back.
The description also talks about strange rumors, unsettling urban legends, and occult incidents beneath the surface of familiar streets and neighborhoods. That gives us the broad outline of the structure: players will likely live a double life, balancing normal routines with supernatural investigations.
What has not been confirmed yet is how combat works, whether the dungeon structure has changed, how social systems have evolved, or whether Atlus is making any major mechanical break from Persona 5 Royal.
Given how much Persona 5 did to modernize the series’ presentation, expectations for Persona 6 will be huge. Atlus will know that. It will also know fans are not just looking for “Persona 5, but green.” The big question is how far the studio is willing to push the formula now that Persona is one of Sega’s biggest RPG brands.
What about the Persona 6 leaks?
Before the official reveal, Persona 6 had already been surrounded by leaks, rumored screenshots, supposed logos, and social media chaos.
Atlus had even warned fans to be careful about fake accounts and misinformation, particularly around people impersonating developers or presenting unofficial posts as real announcements. That warning now looks well-timed, because the actual reveal has confirmed some broad expectations while still leaving most details unknown.
For now, the safest approach is to treat the official teaser, platform listings, and store descriptions as the only solid information. Anything beyond that should be treated as rumor unless Atlus or Sega confirms it.
That may not stop Persona fans from dissecting every leaked color palette, alleged character design, or suspiciously green UI element, but it is worth remembering that Persona 6 is now officially out in the open. We no longer need to rely on rumors to know it exists.
When will we see more Persona 6?
Atlus has not announced the next Persona 6 showcase or gameplay reveal.
However, with Persona 4 Revival launching on February 18, 2027, it would make sense for Atlus to focus more of its near-term Persona marketing on that remake first. Persona 6 may stay in teaser mode for a while longer, especially if its release is still some distance away.
Still, after years of waiting, that is enough to get started. Persona 6 is real. It is green. It is gloomy. It is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. And, unless Atlus has suddenly forgotten how to make these things impossibly stylish, it is going to be one of the most closely watched RPGs of the next few years.
