Nintendo Enjoys Explosive Holiday Season

This article is over 17 years old and may contain outdated information

Not only did Nintendo sell every Wii that rolled off the assembly line this year, the DS Lite sold 1.6 million copies in December alone and 5.3 million for the entire year.

The Wii version of the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was purchased by 86 percent of people who bought a Wii, and even the Game Cube version sold like hot cakes, securing Twilight Princess a spot as one of the top five best-selling games of 2006.

New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Age also did well, both coming in as top 10 sellers for the year.

All of this combined to make November and December of 2006 the most successful holiday season for a videogame company in history, and Nintendo sales accounted for more than half of all systems sold in the entire U.S.
