Microsoft has confirmed that the New Xbox Experience, the upcoming major update to Xbox Live, will not feature movie sharing as originally promised.
Microsoft had originally planned to allow Netflix movie sharing between up to eight online users, according to the official NXE announcement, but now says the feature is “coming soon.” However, online photo sharing, which had also been rumored to be delayed, will still be functional when the update arrives in November.
“Photo sharing is going to be available at launch,” Microsoft said in a statement reported by Shacknews. “With regards to movies, the New Xbox Experience is a long term initiative, what we are rolling out in November is only the beginning! With the New Xbox Experience we will have the flexibility to roll out features and updates dynamically, unlike in the past where we were on a more biannual schedule. So, there are a lot more exciting features, including Movie Sharing that will be coming soon.”
The New Xbox Experience is scheduled to launch on November 19 as a free download, and will include an entirely new interface, expanded social networking tools including customizable avatars, a new “party system” and more. To learn more, check out the New Xbox Experience site at Xbox.com.
