Seriously, this overly drawn out steambox announcement thing is amazing news. Win8's been worrying me. <3 valve— Markus Persson (@notch) September 23, 2013
Famed Minecraft creator gives a big thumbs up to Valve’s first announcement of the week.
Developers are already weighing in on the blockbuster news of Valve launching its own operating system. At the forefront is none other than Mojang’s Markus “Notch” Persson. The Minecraft creator tweeted his support for the project earlier today, while also sneaking in a barb about the long-delayed Half-Life 2: Episode 3. “Valve is saving the entire gaming world, but I all I can do is mumble passive aggressively about crowbars,” Notch posted.
The announcement of SteamOS especially pleased him given his earlier criticisms of Windows 8 as an operating system for indie developers.
“Win8’s been worrying me. <3 valve,” he added.
Notch wasn’t alone in his critique of Microsoft’s latest platform, as Valve’s own Gabe Newell stated last year that “Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space.”
SteamOS is the first of three big announcements Valve has planned for the coming days, with the next set to drop on Wednesday. According to Valve’s website, SteamOS will be a free download that features Linux architecture to serve as a “stand-alone operating system for living room machines.”
