Old Spice Guy Reveals (Probably Fake) Gears of War 3 Ending

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

It’s not guns that will defeat the Locust in Gears of War 3, it’s romance.

Isaiah Mustafa, who rose to fame as the much-loved Old Spice Guy, has revealed the ending to Gears of Wars 3 in a new video, months before the game’s release.

If you’re worried about possible Gears of War 3 spoilers, then stop reading, although if any of the information below is actually true, I’ll be very surprised.

Taking the time to answer a question from Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski, Mustafa said that it wasn’t guns, bombs, chainsaws that ended the war: it was the power of love. He also revealed that his character’s rippling abs could deflect gunfire, an ability that will no doubt come in handy with an alien army trying to kill him. There’s some doubt as to whether this ending is entirely genuine, however, as certain factual errors – like calling Gears of War a “first person shooter” – suggest that some, or indeed all, of this information might not be wholly accurate.

Joking aside, it’s wonderfully bizarre things like this that make the Old Spice marketing campaign so effective. It’s hard to think of many other advertisements that are so much fun to watch, which is in no small part to the excellent casting of Mustafa. It’s kind of a shame that his part in Gears 3 – which is just a nameless COG soldier – isn’t a little bigger.

Gears of War 3 comes out for Xbox 360 on September 20th.
