Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Trailer Reveals Grand Underground & New Features

The Pokémon Company has revealed more gameplay for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in a new trailer at today’s Pokémon Presents showcase, and gameplay features found in the original game are back and updated, such as with the adventure-filled Grand Underground. Where the original game allowed players to create a secret base and excavate tunnels in the Underground, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl include new Pokémon Hideaways. These caverns are filled with exclusive monsters and environments that change depends on how a player decorates their base in the Grand Underground.

You can also customize your Pokémon battles with stickers that change each Pokémon’s Poké Ball exit. Additionally, the player character is now fully customizable, with players able to change their looks with different outfits. Players will further be able to choose a Pokémon to follow them around in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The Union Room is getting an update, too, with players able to communicate and battle online rather than only via local connection.

Super Contest Shows, meanwhile, gives players a chance to show off what their team can do in activity-based competition. See some of the new features in action in the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl gameplay trailer below.

To celebrate the launch of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl later this year, Nintendo is releasing a special Nintendo Switch Lite that features both games’ respective Legendary Pokémon, Dialga and Palkia. The goal with the design was to call back to the special-edition Nintendo DS that released back with the original games. Take a look at the Switch Lite below before it launches on November 5, 2021.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were announced earlier this year as ground-up chibi remakes of the original Nintendo DS games from 15 years ago that introduced the Sinnoh region. Meanwhile, an earlier version of this same region will be explorable in the open-world Pokémon Legends: Arceus when it brings the ancient Hisui Region to Switch early next year.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will launch on Switch on November 19, 2021.
