Project Athia from Square Enix Will Be PS5 Console Exclusive for 2 Years

Square Enix’s Project Athia will be a console exclusive to PlayStation 5 for a full two years after it launches. The lengthy timed exclusivity window was subtly revealed today when Sony published a “New and Upcoming Games” trailer, revealing that the game will not arrive on other consoles until at least “24 months” after its initial release date. The mysterious game is still without a launch date for PC and PlayStation 5, so Xbox Series X | S players will not get their hands on it until 2023 at the earliest.

Project Athia, the game’s working title, is a beautiful-looking fantasy title from Luminous Productions. At its reveal, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story writer Gary Whitta announced that he is Project Athia’s writing lead, saying that he “led a crack team of A-list writers from the worlds of film, TV, games, and fantasy literature” to create its universe.

Everything else we know about Square Enix’s strange new outing was revealed in its stunning announcement trailer. A female character travels through burnt ruins, glowing wolves creep in the shadows, and Project Athia’s world seems to be living in different, magical ways. Little more about the PlayStation 5 timed console exclusive is known. Stay tuned for more updates on when the game will come to Xbox Series X | S — or any platform, for that matter.
