Shinji Mikami’s next project has been revealed: some kind of futuristic game involving futuristic stuff.
It was presumed that Platinum Games was counting down to the reveal of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami’s next game earlier this month, and those presumptions have turned out to be correct. Vanquish has been unveiled as the fourth in Platinum Games’ four game deal with Sega, accompanying MadWorld, Bayonetta, and Infinite Space.
All we have right now on Vanquish is this trailer, but it looks like Shinji Mikami could in essence be bringing back a game in the style of previous work P.N.03. The trailer itself is somewhat unique, mixing live action and CGI to almost make the two indecipherable from each other.
What can be gleaned is that the United States comes under attack by a city-destroying space laser, perhaps located on the ship shown in the trailer. The U.S. President doesn’t seem too afraid of the destruction, saying that the country will emerge victorious against the threat. This will no doubt be partially due to what looks like the game’s main character, an armored super soldier shown taking on giant mechs.
Will this game be a third-person shooter like Gears of War or Uncharted? Could it possibly not be a shooter at all? Right now, we don’t even know which systems it will be released on. Details will likely emerge at some point later in time, unless time reverses itself. I’m not sure what would happen then, but Vanquish would probably be the last thing on your mind. If that doesn’t happen, E3 is at least one place where I would expect to find out more, if something doesn’t pop up sooner.
