Returnal Gets Gameplay Trailer, Launches on PS5 in March 2021

Housemarque’s latest title, Returnal, will launch on PlayStation 5 on March 19, 2021. The studio showed a new trailer during the 2020 Video Game Awards. Returnal follows Selene, an Astra space scout who is trapped in an endless resurrection loop on a hostile planet.

The game utilizes a third-person perspective combining both roguelike action and explorative narrative storytelling, where Selene will be able to learn more about the planet while continuing to fight through bullet-hell projectiles. Returnal will also use PlayStation 5’s 3D audio capabilities to add new levels of immersion for players.

Being on PlayStation 5, Returnal has incredibly fast loading times and will also use the haptic feedback feature on the DualSense wireless controller to simulate natural ambiance. Additionally, every weapon has an alternative firing mode called Alt-Fire. Players can use adaptive triggers to switch seamlessly between aiming down sights and activating Alt-Fire. Squeezing the trigger down halfway allows you to aim down, while full squeezing it all the way will set off your rechargeable Alt-Fire attack.

Returnal was announced back in June during Sony’s PS5 showcase. Last month it was revealed to have an expected release date somewhere in the first half of 2021. Now, we have confirmation that it will release in March 2021.
