Sailor Moon and her Sailor Scouts are invading Italy as the start of what may be a major international brand revitalization.

It’s been over ten years since Sailor Moon and her friends appeared in a videogame (over ten years, in fact). As a result, it’s more than a little surprising to hear that the anime series is getting a new game, but the weird news is that it’s only going to be a title exclusive to Italy.

The game, Sailor Moon: La luna splende, is going to be released for the DS. Based on the Google translation of the press release (which is written in Italian), it sounds like this is going to be an action-adventure title which allows gamers to play as any of the five Sailor Scouts. Each of the Scouts has a unique power/ability that will allow them to deal with level puzzles in a different way, and Tuxedo Mask is set to make an appearance.

As it turns out, Sailor Moon has seen a revival in Italy because Toei Animation has been broadcasting a remastered version of the cartoon since March. According to Wikipedia, Toei has promised that an international revival will happen if the brand does well in Italy. If it’s doing well enough to get a videogame, it sounds as though Sailor Moon might very well be on the verge of a comeback.
