Soldier of Fortune to Return

Shacknews reports that it has received confirmation from an Activision official that a new Soldier of Fortune title is in the works.

The first title was released in 2000 on the PC, with console ports following next year, and the sequel appeared in 2002. Both titles were produced by Raven Software and published by Activision.

The Soldier of Fortune first-person shooter games were infamous for their use of an advanced hit detection system, which allowed the player to target specific body parts and resulted in more realistic violence and death animations.

Retailer listings point to a November 2007 launch date, but that is highly unlikely and unconfirmed by either the developer or publisher.
