THQ Unveils Metro: Last Light Live Action Trailer

This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

It turns out that entering the Metro was not a pleasant process.

Boy, nobody does cheery and upbeat like the Ukrainians. In case the end-of-the-world setting of 4A Games’ Metro franchise wasn’t unpleasant enough on its own, here’s a live-action video showing some of the good times that led up to it: panic in the streets, trampled civilians and cold-eyed Russian soldiers who won’t say “no” twice.

The trailer is the centerpiece of enterthemetro.com, the new website for the upcoming Metro: Last Light. Not much is known about the game at this point, but it will apparently follow directly behind the events of Metro 2033 – although which ending is considered “canon” remains a bit of a mystery. (A “prologue video” released at E3 in 2011 suggested that, in fine Ukrainian fashion, the “bad” ending is the real one.)

I was looking forward to something a bit more revealing in gameplay terms, but I have to admit that this video does a nice job of setting the tone. “Unrelentingly bleak” may not sound like a whole lot of fun but when it comes to Eastern European videogames, what else could you possibly want?

Metro: Last Light is slated to come out in early 2013 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
