Britain’s video game industry raked in record first quarter software sales as retailers moved nearly 18 million units.
The GBP 418.4 million figure, provided by Chart-Track analysts, illustrates an almost one-third improvement year-on-year.
“We are thrilled to see the industry continue to grow at such a rapid rate and videogame sales continuing to rise,” said Paul Jackson, director general of ELSPA.
Nintendo was the key beneficiary of the sales, seizing a 37-percent share, with its family friendly titles taking the lead.
“This period has seen more innovative and family-friendly titles doing well and it is clear that consumers of all ages have been lining up to buy them,” Jackson added.
