Call of Duty 2021 Reportedly Skipping E3 for Reveal This Summer

This year’s Call of Duty will not appear at E3 2021, according to a report from VGC. Activision will apparently host a reveal for the series’s next iteration, reportedly titled Call of Duty: Vanguard and set during World War II, sometime later this summer. With a release reportedly planned for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S this November, the entry would feature multiplayer, campaign, and, yes, zombies components. While Sledgehammer Games is serving as this next entry’s primary developer, VGC states that “virtually every internal studio at Activision is now working on Call of Duty” in some form.

Activision held an in-game event in free-to-play battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone last year for the official reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and a similar event-style reveal in Warzone for Vanguard is considered “likely.” Furthermore, Call of Duty: Vanguard will reportedly feature a much more robust tie-in with Warzone. Sledgehammer allegedly has a “significant amount of content planned” for Warzone, including a full transition to a World War II setting.

These plans also include the series’s “largest and most ambitious” map yet, which will launch alongside Call of Duty: Vanguard sometime this November. Set in the Pacific theater, the map’s introduction will coincide with additional vehicles that will make it easier to traverse the gigantic map. Visual upgrades to match Call of Duty: Vanguard will reportedly come with the Pacific theater Warzone map as well.

Activision has not commented on this report about skipping E3 and future reveal plans, though it did reiterate that a Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4 reveal trailer will be shown off this week during Summer Game Fest Kickoff Live.
