In WarCry’s continuing series of developer journals, Artix Entertainment, creators of AdventureQuest Worlds (among others), takes a look at the 13 Lords of Chaos, character pages and the ever-popular good and evil shop. Pop through for a good read!
What is a LORD OF CHAOS!?
On Friday the 13th, our world was changed forever as the Good King Alteon drew his blade and faced the evil DoomKnight Sepulchure in a one on one duel to the death… or in Sepulchure’s case… un-undeath. In the most intense, full action cutscene we have ever created, the unthinkable happened! As they both swung their final strike….
(This is available for all players to experience right now in our free browser based MMO, AdventureQuest Worlds. This major storyline event is easy to reach in your first sitting of game play. You will have to see it for yourself to find out what happens!)
… and then after that the mysterious new villian cast a GIANT fireball knocking the giant undead dragon fortress out of the sky. Following those terrible events, the age of Chaos has begun leaving two questions on the minds of your fellow players. Who is that beautiful red haired girl, and who are the 13 LORDS OF CHAOS!?
[Insert a dramatic pause, some cool sounding music, and if possible give the view some pizza… and a cup cake for desert. Unless they do not like pizza or cupcakes. In which case maybe they would like a horse. To ride, not eat! Geeez.]Greetings and salutations,
I am excited to be writing to you from <looks down at the tops of the clouds> the inside of an airborne 747 on route to New York. If you read my design notes you likely already know I am on yet another mission from SOOUS. They really need a better acronym! So many exciting things have been going on this week. I am not sure where to start, so I will just dig right in with all of the new AdventureQuest Worlds information! Thank you for reading it.
CHARACTER PAGES
You can now show off your epic weapons, armor, items and pets on the new character pages. Click on any player’s nameplate in game and select the “character page” option to see it. This is only round one, as we have a ton of ideas on how to make it even better. We want to add some customizable scenes to display your character in, links to items displayed in your inventory (so you can see their stats and what places/monsters/quests they come from) and a lot of nice touches like a real time updated friends list so you can see where your friends are logged in from outside the game!
CLASS POINTS
Previously in AQWorlds you can obtain a new class and rank it up unlocking new skills. We used to call the points that ranked up your armor “Rep” which did not make any sense. They are now called Class Points. Class points are worth more and will level up your class faster than before (almost 50% faster!) This was done for a few reasons. Mainly, Zhoom is currently building new faction system. It will work like many games you have seen before. Each city or major organization in the game will be considered a Faction. You can go on special quests for them to earn reputation points unlocking new shops, cutscenes, classes, special battles, and more. For example, you may choose to do quests on behalf of the evil city of Shadowfall. Once you have done enough quests they might open a special new EVIL SHOP with you.
GOOD AND EVIL SHOP
Evil Players can now access the evil shop in Shadowfall. It is filled with an assortment of dark and deadly items to customize your character with. Also, there is a shop for Good Players in the city of Swordhaven. Currently it is possible to easily change your characters good or evil alignment. However, once we the storylines for the two side have been built up, you choice will become much more permanent and only changeable through a great task.

Who would have guessed that there would be back to back Friday the 13ths! If you really want to know what a Lord of Chaos is, join us after the sun sets on March 13. A live event will be run hosted by the darkest musician/comic book writer/toy maker in the world, Voltaire. (Best known for his songs BRAINS on the Cartoon Network show, the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and his comic book, Deady the Evil Teddy) The event will be accessible from any of our game servers (… and after what happened last time we better add some more.) Live events with music inside a Web Based MMO along with massive storyline reveal!? What will we think of next — this is one event you will not want to miss (you better believe there will be rares!)
