Bloober Team & Konami Enter Partnership Amid Silent Hill Rumors

Bloober Team, the developer behind Layers of Fear and The Medium, has entered a “strategic cooperation agreement” with Silent Hill publisher Konami. The Bloober Team website made the announcement, stating both companies will be “jointly developing selected contents and exchanging know-how.” Neither party has explicitly said what will come of this new partnership.

Bloober Team president Piotr Babieno stated that the partnership is the culmination of years of the studio’s work. Konami’s president of digital entertainment, Hideki Hayakawa, offered additional thoughts: “We have been providing unique entertainment content and ways to enjoy it through the use of information technology. In the digital entertainment industry, significant changes in the business environment are expected in the future. We look forward to combining Bloober Team’s and our respective characteristics and strengths to create high-quality contents.”

Bloober Team’s deal with Konami follows rumors from earlier this year that stated Konami has two Silent Hill-related games in development – one from Bloober Team and one from another prominent Japanese developer that has yet to be named. At that time, Bloober Team’s Babieno had said that the studio was working on “another horror IP” from “a very famous gaming publisher.” Nothing is confirmed yet, but with today’s partnership announcement, all signs point to Silent Hill.

VGC additionally reports that Bloober Team is indeed working on a project related to Silent Hill for Konami. The site also reiterated that Konami has “outsourced at least one other Silent Hill project to a prominent developer in Japan,” with the possibility that more developers could be working on separate projects.

The Medium launched as Bloober Team’s full dive into the third-person thriller puzzle genre earlier this year with clear inspiration from the Silent Hill series. During our chat with the team, technical level designer Vitalii Pryvalov said, “Game IPs like Silent HillResident EvilAmnesia are already inspiring us in our projects, but certainly we’ve got our very own ideas on how to push them forward in case we’ll be able to work on them.”
