Valve has issued a patch for the Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead which puts a halt to the recently-reported cheating that has plagued the game.
Reports surfaced yesterday that enterprising gamers had figured out how to enable cheats in the Xbox 360 version of the hit multiplayer zombie slaughterfest, allowing people to perform a wide range of abnormal behaviors including deleting in-game objects and spawning enemies at will. One user reported being surrounded by 30 Witches and two Tanks in a safe house immediately after joining a game as part of an effort to bring the matter to Valve’s attention and hopefully have the cheats patched out.
It looks like Valve is all over this one: The company has just announced the release of a server-side fix which will eliminate the ability of players to make use of these hacks. “The fix is designed to halt the cheating behavior on the dedicated servers, which accounts for the majority of the co-op and Versus modes of play,” Valve Marketing Director Doug Lombardi said in an email. “A title update for those playing on user-hosted servers and/or via system link will be released in the coming days.”
Problem solved! Now go shoot something.
