Review: Modern Warfare 2

That review takes the words from my lips.

I may have also been skeptic about multi-player. Matchmakings a little off and faster than Halo. Almost like dedicated servers...

6-12 hours? You are misleading people. I am yet to see someone finished campaign in more than 6 hours. Mine took 5,40 in veteran.

I agree. I finished it in 4 1/2 hours on regular.

Thirded. I cannot see how on earth it would take anyone 12 hours to finish this game. I can't say I think this review did much in the way of reviewing rather it seemed to just be gushing about the game. It just didn't feel like a balanced review to me.

Except the multiplayer is pure and utter shite that's riddled with lag.

Chaos Marine:
Except the multiplayer is pure and utter shite that's riddled with lag.

I'm on a mediocre wireless connection and I haven't lagged once.

Distorted Stu:
I dont see why people hate the multiplayer. Its exactly the same but with a big bunch of extras!

I played 5 random games in a row where the entire enemy team were snipers, and my team were cannon fodder.

It was horrible.

The game itself allows for brilliant multiplayer. If you get into a match full of enemy campers then it's not the game's fault. It's most likely you got matched up with a bunch of 12 year olds. There's a lot of improvements over CoD 4, the spec-ops missions are fun to do with friends, and the story is good. I also understand what happened in the story as opposed to people who think it's horribly told.

the story was fun, but it's true compared to MW1 the strings that combine the American rangers and the British SAS are thin to the point of non existent. in fact the only time i really got the picture the two groups were connected were through a few brief moments Soap or *spoiler warning* Price talked to Shepperd. and yes the game was incredibly awesome but how far does that really go for it being ridiculously short. it ended and i was still waiting for the next level...i sat through the whole damn museum credits just to see if there was at least an epilogue level like the first one... there wasn't. am i pissed that i bought it, hell no! the game was really fun plus there is still the special ops and the multilayer.

as far as the multiplayer goes, i am a little bit torn. when i saw that 25 kills gets you a nuke i was like dam I'm going to have a nuke every game cause in MW1 25 kills streak was often for me and my friends (like 1-2 every 3 games or so). boy was i wrong. i can hardly break an 11 killstreak with all my deaths. and i don't know how to feel about that.

one reason is that the maps are so huge. in MW1 maps were fairly small so you knew at one point or another someone will come to you. in MW2 that's no longer a guarantee. i remember trying to snipe and was just sitting in dead silence for 2 minutes waiting for someone to come along.

another reason it's hard to get (and i wont even get into how random the deaths are in this game) kills is because to every building there are at least 4 if not more entrances. whie this is an effective way to stop bastard campers it makes it impossible to find a good snipers spot or just simply get around because you never know who is going to pop around the corner.

but i think my biggest complaint with the multiplayer is the lack of effort (i feel) IW put into making effective respawn points. this is my biggest WTF scream-at-the-top-of-my-lungs moment when playing. respawning feels so random in this game. in MW1 if the enemy was on one side of the map you'd respawn on the other. i can't tell you how many times I've respawnd right in front of an enemy player cause they happened to be there. or I'd respawn right as enemy player was turning around a corner and get killed before i could even make a move. i would think that since MW2 has such big maps that placing me on the other side where it was safer wouldn't be such a big deal, but from what i could tell they always respawn you near the action. which is fine if your on the offensive and winning but sucks if your losing and are just trying to find a new area to try and strike. there are times where I've felt bad for the opposite team because my team will be pushing an area (like a hallway or something) and since some of the enemy are still there their teammates will respawn with them. there have been a few times where enemies have respawned right in the middle of the action and I'm going to kill them, don't get me wrong but i still feel bad for their unlucky respawn.

wow i wrote a lot. does anyone else feel this way or am i just imagining this. i just hope that in a month or two I'll have a better grasp on the maps so that I'll know every nook and cranny and will be able to stay alive longer to get a better killstreak.

Why do I have the feeling that the multi-player portion of the game has a gazilion users running around with riot shields. :)

The dedicated server issue will lose these guys money. And for not including all possible options for each version, that's a deserved consequence.

Good thing I was never interested in CoD, or I'd be angry about it.

that shield is the biggest fucking bshit i've ever seen in my life. not only does it stand everything, but it can kill and there is no way to point a gun over it at defending person's head, which anyone with brain would do in order to kill the defending ASSHOAL. we better stick to counter-strike because it goes like this "call of duty" in title = it's bshit.

Random argument man:
Even if it's a good game, I'm not buying it.

Same thought here.

My friends ruin any game from this series for me.

I gotta stop wondering around these MW2 threads. The spoilers are just smacking me in the face.

Campaign: 8 out of 10. No story, but a lot of great action moments.
Special Ops: 10 out of 10. YES. Spec Ops makes MW2 worth it if you have a gaming buddy. Complete epic missions together by using teamwork.
Multiplayer: 7 out of 10. Not as good as COD4's multiplayer. There are too many things, they should have kept it simpler.

Overall: 8 out of 10. Considering most of the replay value is in the multiplayer, and the multiplayer isn't that great, this game doesn't have good replay value and therefore is a rent unless you are a big COD fan.

It doesn't. I've hardly seen anyone use them. Maybe 1 out of 100 will, at the most. No one wants to give up their primary weapon slot.

Hmm... seems like the review ignored the matchmaking woes that PC reviews of the same game have been harking on about.

Single player was alright, but I think it falls far below the consistency of CoD4

If you're a console gamer, you will love this game. Don't get confused with PC gamers they are pissed for certain reasons and will over exaggerate how bad they think the game is.

If you own a PS3 or 360 you will love this game.

Campaign 9/10 Special Ops 9/10 Multiplayer 9.5/10

We're pissed because we're not used to wallowing in shit like console gamers are and IW are trying to force us to.

Thus far, I've only seen one honest review of Modern Warfare 2, and it's from Ars Technica.

I look forward to the next game in the series: Call of Duty XIV: Modern Combat IIX: Adventures in Generic War Shooters VI: Lord of the Shades of Brown.

wait, wait. Is soap the guy with that pitiful little mohawk?

Its not a mohawk technically, its an army crew cut.

Yeah, to tell you the truth it is actually kind of hard to use, if you cant see someone you are dead. A lot less cheap than I thougt

Russ Pitts:
Modern Warfare 2 is everything a sequel should be, and more.

Good enough review, but I spotted a glaring problem with that above statement, and that would be under your recommendation.

Russ Pitts:
Recommendation: If you never, ever replay games, and don't play multiplayer, then you should give this one a weekend rental. Otherwise, this game is well-worth your hard-earned cash. Games don't come any more highly polished than this.

See, I fit fairly well into that first category. A game has to have an incredibly appealing story for me to reply it, and multiplayer is a rarity for me at the best of times. Therefore, I think it fairly safe to assume that this is something the game could easily improve upon. Something CoD4, a sequel itself, did readily. I played through the game several times, as the story dragged me in, the gameplay was fun, and on top of that, the story was easily accessible, and not a heap of twists and turns like the road into Switzerland at the end of the 1969-release of The Italian Job.

That being said, I may get this game, though at most it will be a rent.

I think it's some sort of hybrid. A crew hawk, if you will.

First, grammar. Second, the sheild is actually a pain to use and really is hard to use. If someone gets out of your feild of view your dead. usually they have a better shot at melleing you. also explosive damage.

In my opinion its a solid game with a great multiplayer. Everybody actually seems to be drawn away because of all the fanboy hype, which is shameful. The game is being punished because it is popular.

And if you are a PC gamer that was your first mistake, no one cares.

Now that is an unfair statement. It takes what has been done before and makes it better while adding so much stuff that has never been done. Its far from generic.

Kstreitenfeld:
6 to 12 hours to complete the campaign? You can run through the campaign in 4 to 6 hours tops if you die a lot. The only way I could possibly see you get 12 hours out of this campaign is if you play through on each difficultly.

Yeah Really I got it the Saturday prior to official release at about 6pm finished the game at 11 just because I took some breaks in between. If you play the game on the hardest difficulty maybe 10 hrs, but it's a stretch. Despite the length the whole game was skillfully and beautifully done. The story in my opinion was stronger in this game than its predecessor MW1. The Already great Multi-Player was overhauled and made better both in map design and experience.

You heard it first folks. PC gamers are mad because they don't get their wants, so that means the game is bad for everyone. Good logic there.

I agree with every in the review wholeheartedly. I did think it was convienient he left out the completely balls friendly AI. Seriously, that is the worst part of this game, and this is coming from someone who loves the single player campaign.

I had to stop the review at the part where he showed the footage of you and the terrorists getting off the elevator. I just got the game and I am NOT spoiling that part for myself.

i feel like i should be vaguely offended by this post
but im too tired to care

i agree with you on the riot shield TONS of fun i also noticed you using blast shield which helps a lot while using riot shield also i say BUMP when i hit people with said shield for comical effect

the throwing knife which was what i was looking forward too, is in fact extremly fun and sastifying to use.

i find the multiplayer overall balanced

still havent touched the campaign

anyways i actually need to get this game right now im just bumming it off my friend

Hey why is this site the only site I go on that can't accept that Modern Warfare 2 is just plain ol' fucking good. You guys are comparing this to some magical uber game that just does not exist. instead of complaining about how this isn't jesus in game form let's compare it to modern shooters like Far Cry 2 or Army of 2, ya know the mediocre games that make up the majority of the genre. this is like hating a guitarist because he doesn't compare to jimi hendrix.

PC gamers - get over yourselves

Honestly shut the hell up. If you like it, fine, good for you. I'm fucking happy for you. But don't sit there on your high horse sneering at people who have a goddamned legitimate reason to pissed. M'kay?

you have no right to tell me to get off my "high horse".
from what ive heard, pc gamers are trying to convince the world that a game is awful if their experience is slightly further from perfection, as if they now best. but this isnt a "high horse"?
and a "legitimate reason"? grow up. you can still play your game, and its still a great game. console players very rarely get dedicated servers, and they can live without complaining.
and did you have a point to say, or was a string of swears good enough for you?
