Yes, from hackers who go after the information, without those kinds of people we wouldn't need to protect ourselves.

My point is, that maybe now people will question the company whom they're about to upload all their personal information to. I mean, the article says that these hackers werent particularly skillfull, I mean shit, I'm not gonna give any personal information to Sony again

Then you might as well never give any personal information to anyone in e-commerce. Sony's no worse secure than some and probably better secure than many.

You're both completely missing my point and I cba explaining it further

Maybe the fact that both of us are "missing" your point tells you something about your point.

Well you must be the expert on web security. If any hacker wants into a databse, theyll get it!

No exceptions.

I was pissed off at first but now I just want this to end. Sony needs a break. Maybe they should eat a KitKat

Just get a man to dress up as Kratos and scare the fuck out of the hackers.

$20 says the hackers will say microsoft paid them due to portal 2

The hackers behind the Sony Music Japan intrusion claim to be affiliates of Security Lulz (the group that hacked a FOX server two weeks ago). Looks like -- as their name suggests -- they're doing it for the lulz.

Do I get your $20?

JDKJ:
Son of a bitch!! Sony Music Japan just got hacked!! It's like one-a-day.

http://www.mydroidandme.com/news/sony-music-japan-latest-to-get-hacked

Seriously? Another one?!

Well dammit. According to that article, if the info posted by the hackers is genuine, there's 2 more potential targets. Wonder how that will pan out-if the attacks aren't already underway, that is...

It's actually another two if you include the Indonesian sever that was hacked over the weekend and defaced but no data stolen.

And the weird thing (if you expect that there'd be either rhyme or reason in this cluster-fuck) is that they're now targeting servers that have nothing to do with Sony's video game subsidiaries.

You know, with all the info that's been passed around about these hacks, I'm picturing the hacker group to simply want to kick dirt in Sony's face and resemble something like this:

I mean they're even calling themselves 'Security lulz'...

Well, it's in the second part of the article you linked.........

10$ if they catch the hackers, they will hire them to build better security.

I actually agree with this. Let's raise it up to $20.

$30.

..Sony hacked again? That's really unfair toward the people who worked so hard there daily and the innocent consumers who rely on Sony. I mean, don't these hackers have any consideration for people at all? This just makes good hackers in general look bad, and it goes with a saying~

"This is why we can't have nice things!"

I would like access to the DAMN SERVICE I PAID LEGAL TENDER FOR, DAMN IT! PLEASE HACKERS, ENOUGH! My freaking PS3 has been a 20 lbs. paperweight for the last month, and it is P155124 me off! Shove off, jog on, vamoose, beat it, begone, etc. Thank you, and good night.

Fuck if I know what these hackers are trying to prove anymore. If the hackers were trying to make a point, maybe it would have been smarter to start with the small fry servers like these ones instead of attacking the big canoli that is PSN. It's like PSN was the cannonball, and all these other hacks are the waves.

I don't think these hackers are making any sort of statement. Mostly for the lulz, I'm sure. This will only make Sony, and many more companies, even more paranoid about their customer's rights and restrict it even further. I laugh at those who think that this will make Sony any more forgiving in their ToS/EULA/Whateverthefuck people complain about them nowadays. All this does is further prove their point that they were in the right in removing the OtherOS or whatever they did because of all the shit that's happened so far.

I don't know which is more worrisome; Sony's potential incompetence in security, or the hackers' potential competence in cracking it.

That is getting ridiculous, let Sony catch a break finally. I don't even like the company as such, but this is just too much. Hopefully, other companies with my credit card info have better protection.

I'm personally think their heads will be on pikes outside of the main Sony HQ.

I support this. They should throw Geohotz in the mix as well, just for good measure. That stupid ass.

And the wondrous sound of people demanding that dickheads, who enjoy being dickheads, to stop being dickheads fills my screen yet again.

Seriously, do you really think going "COME ON GUYS, KNOCK IT OFF" is gonna change anything?

Good. I hate Sony (well their gaming division anyway), they have treated their customers like shit for years. Its about time they started getting fucked over.
Keep it up guys. Wipe the smug smiles off those assholes faces once and for all.

Its not. Doesn't mean its not nice to see other people saying exactly what you are thinking.

This is starting to feel like sharks smelling blood more than any actual concerted effort to discredit or undermine Sony. The Anonymous DDoS attacks were actual attacks intended to harass Sony. The PSN attack and the SOE attack seemed more just a blatant criminal acts in an attempt to steal customer info for personal gains. Then there was the web-server that was being used to host a phishing scam, again, a criminal action. Now we have this latest attack on Sony's music servers in Greece and appears to be more the hackers showing off that they could do it. The disparity of these attacks seem like they are all of different groups with different objectives, with the only truly potent attack being the PSN breach.

Sony's security has proven to be severely lacking, so now all the sharks are swimming in to take their nibbles of the carcass. If I were Sony, I would definitely be instituting a new policy to completely overhaul the security of all servers(better intrusion monitoring, transaction journaling, stronger firewalls, better use of strong encryption and access controls), take off-line any servers that are deprecated in functionality(like the website that was co-opted for the phishing scam), re-architecture the databases such they are less exposed to the internet, re-architecture access to the databases to more tightly secure communications between the database and authorized client systems, and change policy to ensure that all software is constantly kept up-to-date. These changes would be applied company-wide to all server systems that must interface with the internet or store company critical data, such as customer records.

Honestly, unless Sony improves its security everywhere at every level, it can just expect more of the same. Just like with wild animals, once the scent of blood is in the air, the crazed frenzy continues until they(the wild animals) are completely exhausted of energy or there is just nothing left of the corpse. (Hackers, bullies, gamers, politicians, corporate executives, internet assholes, terrorists, you name it; doesn't matter. Human beings are not necessarily so far removed from our more bestial beginnings. We still have a long way to evolve, yet.)

Assassin Xaero:
Alex!? Oh no, that's me!

OT: Seriously, this is getting really fucking annoying, leave them alone. Wouldn't surprise me if all these hackers were irate 360 fanboys...

Or if they are just hackers attacking Sony because it has awful security. Not everything is a fanboy war.

Must have been running MySQL or MS SQL Server... Oracle FTW

Sadly for Sony every little intrusion is being noted and highlighted ATM .. its a shame as SQL injection Attacks are pretty damn common with Aprox 450 000 attacks per month (companies are not fort coming with this info and why would they be it would create a general internet population panic)

Sony mirrors Jose Canseco .dude got caught out, but we were all so busy trying to "burn the witch" that we were ignoring that everyone else was having the similar issues just hiding them better than good old Jose , what we should have been doing is holding the whole Community accountable for their Governance.

i'd laugh but my xbox is being repaired
so i'll just shut up and play uncharted

we are now totally hack proof *sony gets hacked* ok NOW we are hack proof *sony gets hacked*

we are now so hack proof no one will ever hack us again *sony gets hacked* cant hack us now we are un hackable this time *sony gets hacked* security is now perfect *sony gets hacked*
no more holes exist *sony gets hacked*

repeat till you get bored

Did anyone else notice that the article said the hackers "weren't very skilled", yet they were able to hack a bit into a database of Sony? Sure, it's not the main one, but they still hacked into it none the less. And these were not very skilled people.
Sony get your shit together.

Don't you guys get it? This is like saying Gaddhafi's troops are dicks for attacking civilians.

I mean, they are, but isn't whether or not they're dicks sort of a moot point?

It is possible to prevent hacking attacks, and it's up to Sony to stop them. Internet Security comes along with the responsibilities of hosting an online gaming platform.

Hobo Steve:

Go fuck a toaster. They are hurting innocent consumers as well as fucking over people who are just trying to make a living. I'm sure a massive corporation going out of buisness wont A. inflate unemployment B. cause a huge vacuum of power in all the fields that Sony was in and C. fucking bad.

Do you understand buisness or is it some sort of arcane magic to you? How do you even function as an adult in the real world if you don't understand the concept that a large company like sony, who not only make products but also produce component parts to be used by many other companies, 'getting fucked over' has a large widespread effect that goes beyond your miserable failing ass.

I'd be giving this same speech for Microsoft or Apple or Nintendo before you throw the 'Fanboy' lable at me.

Flailing Escapist:
I'm glad nothing like this happens to microsoft....

yet...it's only a matter of time till someone gets sick of the smug ignorant attitudes of some of the Xbox fanboys and fucks Microsoft's whole network.

But Sony naow has the Dark Fortress!

OT: Stupidity aside, I'm getting really sick of this. Yes, I have a PS3 and use PSN, but even if I was a PC/360 gamer I'd be pissed. Haven't they beaten the dead horse long enough? they proved a point, they should have enough accounts to steal money from to buy Italy, and hacking Sony over and over WILL get old. I just don't wanna wait till they get sick of it before they stop.

I feel like bill murray in groundhog day when it comes to the psn news.

Adamc-mh:
Just get a man to dress up as Kratos and kill the fuck out of the hackers.

Fix'd. This is something that I'd like to see, too.

Honestly, Sony should just start posting bounties. "$20,000 if you give us information that leads to the arrest of a hacker! If you're one member of the group, we'll drop charges against you and pay you $25,000 a head!"

I wonder of the ideal of 'doing it for the lulz' would hold up to the allure of cold, hard cash.

Aeshi:
This is why it needs to be legal to shoot Hackers

Only when it becomes legal to shoot Corporate CEO's ETc Etc Imo

That blog seem to use the logic of "If you strike me down I will become more powerful then you could possibly imagine!" or "What does not kill us makes us stronger"

I hope Sony managers to get the security to start beating back the tide of hackers since every attack pushes back the PSN a little more.

WanderingFool:

And GOD DAMMIT! Will these people give it a rest, the ship has sailed, and everyone jump ship not long after... so lets knock this crap off, its just getting annoying now...

You can almost hear the original hackers watching, "I was hacking Sony before it was cool. Posers."
