Microsoft Doesn't Want Sony's Sloppy Seconds Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 5 NEXT
wait i thought xbox was getting mgs4. maybe i heard wrong. in any case, this seems like kind of a dick move. i know you can afford to wipe your ass with thousand dollar bills, but some of us can only afford one console. dont screw over gamers just because youre too proud
So... they'd favor licensing no content over licensing potentially "sub-par" content? Yes, that is a legitimate way to make money... Somewhere. Have they been consulting with the underpants gnomes? Oh, this is Microsoft, so no, they actually trained the underpants gnomes.
And Microsoft continues it's strategy of attempting to muscle developers. Microsoft is steadily losing market share to the PS3 (I'm a recent convert myself). While I think the access fee for XBL is so trivial as to be a non-event, I find PS3 to be a much better multimedia device, with better exclusives. Most of console exclusive IP is tapped out. Games like Halo, GOW, and Fable are increasingly falling into the 'been done before' pile, similarly with PS3 exclusives which have concluded a few major exclusive IP's in the past few years. That means the console war will move into new territory, I think mostly revolving around console performance, supplementary utility and nostalgia factors. This is why there is an increasing number of 'classics' on the PSN, and an increased focus on the integration of social networking and streaming media. The simple answer is this. Microsoft do not have the market power to force developers to a particular release pattern. In the long term this sort of strategy will be damaging to Microsoft customers, ergo Microsoft itself. Not to mention the negative brand impact that this sort of statement makes. All of this being said, Microsoft is (contrary to popular opinion) not run by idiots. There will be some kind of valid empirical grounding in this sort of positioning decision, there is undoubtedly some kind of surplus to be captured here.
Basically, Sony is incompetent, Nintendo cover their ears and go "lalala", and MS are just dicks.
Call me a fanboy, but Microsoft seem like dicks more and more everyday. Proprietary Hard Drives, Banning Steam support, Banning EVE support, not adding an internet browser, increasing the price for internet, something that everyone else has for free, and now this? It's like they are trying everything they can to prevent me from buying a 360.
Sometimes I wonder why generally money-grubbing companies can try so hard to not make money.
Woah woah woah. We're still getting Amy though, right?
That's not always possible. And if we're talking about consoles, then you're losing quality and money. Would you rather have a shitty game released on all platforms, or a beautifully made or even average game on one or two platforms? Extra content or exclusivity is what makes the companies more money and able to keep up. Based on what you're implying, the argument can be made that the Xperia Play's rendition of Minecraft should be up to par with the PC or Xbox 360 versions. And what about FortressCraft and Total Miner: Forge, those shitty Minecraft rip-offs on the 360? Those aren't on PC, or PS3. Some consoles just can't pull off certain games because of their graphics or control methods. I couldn't picture a game like Demon's Souls on PC, and I couldn't picture a game like WoW on a console. And having the same sort of content may be tricky too. As was originally brought up, Kratos was in the PS3 version because anyone who only owned an Xbox 360 may not know who that is. Could you think of an interesting character who's on an Xbox 360 exclusive or even someone who'd fit into MK's gory 2D fighting?
Doesn't bother me, there isn't a single Sony exclusive I'm interested in playing.
So if you can't give a developer enough money for exclusive developer and DLC privileges you don't want it at all (except MK) wow how childish can you be.
How many third party Wii exclusives would you actually want on your PS3 or 360?
Hmmm, now that I think of it, the only one that comes to mind is Monster Hunter. There's probably something else of interest, but still, the point stands. Rejecting a good game just because it was on another console before is bad business.
It's still doing the rounds on 4chan but increasingly as a failtroll and more often incorporated into another meme lampooning 360's recent fall from grace. I mean Gears 3 is going to be the first 360 exclusive... in a whole 12 months. I think it ALL started with this Gametrailers video that was a massive flamebait in GT forums (aka fanboy warzone) and spread from there: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/top-ten-screwattack/27842 Yet... 360 exclusives 2007: (hmm not enough, lets cheat and include 2005 and 2006 as well) while PS3 Exclusives 2007 (by International Release): Shame the PS3 cost £425 when it launched here in UK, that at the time was equivalent to $850 in 2007! Though we got Resistance and Motorstorm bundled, it was still a high price of admission.
The thing is though, when you look at the accumulative price of an Xbox 360 (All the extra components that you had to buy, Xbox live membership, etc.) it actually cost around $850! What a coincidence, huh? People talked like the PS3 costing $500+ was a bad thing, but in reality, it was still overall cheaper than the 360 was. And your list isn't entirely complete though (and I'm ignoring the fact that Resistance actually came out [at least in America] in 2006), HOWEVER, the more impressive thing isn't when you look at what exclusives came out for which console, but the quality of those exclusives. PS3 has much more high quality (read: above 90 on metacritic) games than the 360 does. Idk... I just don't understand why people love the 360 so much. Oh right... marketing... it can do a lot to sell things.
So not porting PS3 exclusives does the Xbox a favor? And here I thought that it just made people more likely got a PS3...
Really? Not a single one? Not even Uncharted? Infamous? Resistance or Killzone? God of War? 3D Dot Game heroes? You do like games... right? I hope you aren't just saying you aren't interested in the sense of "Interested, but not interested enough to invest in another system" kind of interested.
Ah, screw this policy. Also, what is this "consumer demand" he's talking about for this policy? Demand from die-hard Xbox fanboys, I guess. Who wants to do anything to help die-hard fanboys anyway? If they're that die hard they'll probably buy everything released on the console anyway- and everyone with emotional maturity above the age of 12 will get to play some shiny new titles.
Microsoft still shows a lot of love to their other platform Windows. A ton of console exclusives for the Xbox 360 are also released for the PC, but not PS3 or Wii.
Killzone, no, its another bland boring shooter title. I played the First God of War, the others look like basically the exact same game, button mash, timed boss events. There are other games that play exactly like Infamous, so its like I've already played it. Resistance, another shooter. Uncharted maybe, however honestly I never bothered to look that much into it and what it has to offer, since I don't own a PS3. I dunno what 3D Dot Game Heros is, but if its some "3D" title, I'll pass...since I can't see in 3D (1 working eyeball). Mostly yeah, not interested enough to invest in another system kinda interested. The ONLY exclusive thats ever even sorta really interested me was MGS4, and I've gone this long without it, I'll survive somehow. :)
I mean that I like that MS isn't going for sloppy ports and whatnot.
And Kratos isn't? Mind = Blown Although Marcus has a gritty voice and a "Grrr angry" tone, it makes sense to do it....
But that's just it though, isn't it? So long as the Xbox has a version of a game, it'll move units - even though it won't be the "defining" version of the title. Say if Bethesda wanted to release it on PS3 and PC first (hypothetically), then Xbox gamers would miss out on the experience. To refute quality assurance, Bethesda would just shoot itself in the foot if they gave only Xbox gamers a delayed port with sub-par quality.
That is truly pathetic.
I wonder what will happen when consoles have to put up with the same crap as PC? They're becoming more like PC's every generation, and statistics seem to say that console piracy is almost, if not just as, bad as PC. Maybe everyone will move to Iphones, and the cycle will from there.
Odd, you'd think they'd want all the money they can get.
Yeah, the community took the words right out of my mouth. Childish. They are robbing their consumers of games (and through that robbing themselves of money) in exchange for benefits that are shaky at best and nonexistant at worst. I'd even say getting games later is good, since when a game is released later on another console it tends to get all sort of nifty extras.
While it does bother me that MS is doing that, it's because I might lose out on some exclusive that comes down the line. I too have no interest on any current Sony exclusive, not even Male Tomb Raider, Electric Parkour Attack, Gray Future Shooter XX or Gray Future Shooter XXI. 3D Dot Game Heroes looks hilarious and I'm happy enough that it exists. To be perfectly honest I did kind of get interested on Motorstorm for a while, but FUEL cured that from me.
I know, right? I don't get to play No More Heroes on 360 or No heroes 2 on the ps3. Companies can be particually petty and jerks to their customers at times, can't they?
I can kind of understand it in a "Devs, you want to sell your game on the 360 then you better release it at the same time and with the same content as you are giving the others." Yeah, some people may act like entitled little bitches but most are gonna be happy to just have another great game on their system. I am a PC gamer, if you told me that Gears 2 was coming to PC now, 3 years after its initial launch, I would be fucking ecstatic. TL:DR: MS may mean well but end up just fucking over their customers.
Oh well, no big loss, I mean... it's the XBox.
I remember a few years ago one exclusive JRPG(Tales of Vesperia I think) on the 360 went over to the ps3 with extra content. I remember sony was the one who asked them to add some extra content so people can it the ps3 version over the 360 version
I stopped buying games for my 360 a long time ago anyway. The only reason I even still have a 360 is because of the Mass Effect series. Everything else I get for either the PC or PS3.
Sorry, which series has recieved BAFTA awards, God of War or Gears of War? Amazing what you miss when you don't actually play the game.
They'd shoot themselves in the foot if they gave anyone a delayed port, but they'd shoot themselves in the foot more if they didn't deliver an Xbox version at all. Once again, a bad port might sell fewer units, but no port will sell absolutely zero units.
This has just turned into a massive flamewar against the 360. I don't care I'm not a serious gamer so this doesn't bother me. Although I must say I dont come to the escapist for news anymore. The journalism is always biased and opinionated, the content is always late, the journo's themselves frequently weigh into debates and say how much they hate a particular product. I will continue to enjoy my 360 and it's minimal selection of games because the dirty little secret is... Most games suck nowadays. It's better this way because I'm less likely to buy crap. The only game I really enjoyed and play over and over is fallout: NV. Everything else I don't play again. Also this thread seems to be made up of mostly pc and ps3 owners.

HAHAHHAHHA, I haven't heard that meme in a LONGGGG time. I guess, looking back on it, the very beginning of the PS3's life it was like that. Now? I'm saying the same about the 360.
