OH NO! A SENATOR CLICKS A HOYKEY THAT MAKES A CHARACTER SWIPE A BUNCH OF POLYGONS THAT RESEMBLE A KNIFE IN A CARTOONY GAME THAT IS ALMOST A DECADE OLD!

THIS MADNESS MUST BE STOPPED! THINK OF THE CHILDREN! DX

I don't know if I should laugh or cry. Both maybe?

I like "deaths per second". I think the only time you can measure that would be clearing trash mobs in a raid.

"Mother of god, that bitch was ganking me all the time! That's it, I'm going Republican!" - The 0.0000001% of voters affected by this.

Hey, I live in Maine. Knowing the Local party leaders I'm not surprised.

She'd have my vote. I'm not American, though.

Also, was that the Republicans that put in "Deaths Per Second"? Any serious player would know that that DPS is DAMAGE Per Second.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand?

Who really cares what she does in her spare time. Checked her armory page - apart from a recent activity surge, she hasn't been active in about a year (probably to focus on her election), and she's no raider - she's not even out of 346 gear yet.

Look for yourself here: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/garrosh/Santiaga/simple

I see this backfiring horribly. She'll probably get support from local gamers.

Zombie_Moogle:
So she lost the paranoid shut-in vote. ouch

Don't forget about a good portion of the octogenarian vote, most old people I meet have a hard time rapping their brains around the hobby.

Oh noes, someone plays an MMO in their leisure time.

The people who put together that website need to grow the fuck up.

That's it. When I vote this year, I'm going wearing bright green orc makeup. And if any journalist or pollster asks me how I voted when I come out of the booth,I'm just going to yell FOR THE HOARD at them.

So she loses the over 50 vote and gains the youth. Good job republican website you gained a handful of new votes while loosing a bunch of others.

So is the republican party now adding gamers to the list of groups they don't want votes from or care about?

That seems to be the case here, yes.

In other news: The republican Party is baffled as to why it's attempts to paint itself as having moved away from it's old: The party for crotchity old folks, have continued to fail.

Leaves very few demographics they can actually claim.

dps (deaths per second)

dear god, my hunter was making 16 thousand casualties each second when he retired. I never realised, what a monster he was.

Meanwhile, other politicians molest little boys in public bathrooms. Isn't politics great, kids?

The most offensive thing here is that she thinks DPS stands for 'Deaths Per Second,' fuckign casuals.

Captcha - Gadzooks: Gadzooks is right!

2052, President Allen Mackenzie aka "Fokallzin "Soul Crusher" Blooddrinker, The Dark Lord of Fireforge" has won the presidential race for the Democrats!

Four more years of Blooddrinker!!!

It's coming guys, maybe sooner, maybe latter. I just hope I'll be alive for it.

Stay on topic, stay on topic: These Republicans will really do anything these days for victory points. Like wild dogs fighting over a carcass. It's a sad state what democracy in America has turned to, and really in general for many countries. "Well the track records always been terrible, it's just more noticeable now I guess".

Andy Chalk:
Senate Candidate Attacked Over World of Warcraft

The Republican Party of Maine has set up a hilarious website warning voters against a Democrat candidate for Senate who "stabs things... a lot."

This is really more of a point-and-laugh post (or a point-and-boggle, or point-and-despair, depending on your perspective) and if you don't like such things you may as well clear out now, because that's what we're going to be doing. Everyone else, gather 'round and listen to the tale of Colleen's World, a website dedicated to Colleen Lachowicz, Democrat candidate for the State Senate of Maine. You might think that Colleen or her people are behind the site, but no, it's actually her opponents, state Republicans. "In Colleen's fantasy world, she gets away with crude, vicious and violent comments," it warns. "Maine needs a State Senator that lives in the real world, not in Colleen's fantasy world."

Colleen's fantasy world is the World of Warcraft, and the Republicans have dug up a pile of old forum posts and posted them on the site alongside a picture of Santiaga, her level 85 Orc Assassination Rogue. And some of this stuff is absolute gold. The first message, from April 2009, states, "So I'm a level 68 orc rogue girl. That means I stab things... a lot... Who would have thought that a peace-lovin', social worker and democrat would enjoy that?" And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

One message calls for a fairer tax policy in the U.S. before concluding that she may need to find conservative activist and Americans for Tax Reform founder Grover Norquist and drown him in her bathtub. She also joked about being in a "socialist guild" and later expounded upon the virtues of being able to kill stuff without going to jail, adding, "There some days when this is more necessary than others." In 2010 she was apparently looking for help to "dickpunch Arthas" and also expressed confusion about why the undead eat but don't pee. Various other posts acknowledge being lazy, goofing off at work and, perhaps worst of all, expressing support for policies of the Obama administration and non-partisan initiatives.

In what I can only assume is some bizarre nuance of American politics, Colleen's World carries a boldfaced, all-caps warning that the site is "not authorized by any candidate," but the Maine Republican Party nonetheless issued a same-day press release questioning Lachowicz's fitness for office because of her Warcrafting ways. After tossing out a few stats, including that the average player spends 22.7 hours per week in the game, party spokesman David Sorensen commented on a few of her choicest statements.

"These are some very bizarre and offensive comments, and they certainly raise questions about Lachowicz's maturity and her ability to make serious decisions for the people of Senate District 25," he said. A link to Colleen's World was provided along with a promise that "mail pieces," which I assume are the postcards pictured below, are being sent out to all voters in the appropriate district.

It's hard to believe that this is what Republicans have decided to seize on as an issue, but the troubling part is that for at least a few voters, it'll probably work.

YELLOW JOURNALISM ALERT!

The composition of this piece makes it seem as though the Republicans are wantonly attacking this democratic candidate for her love of WOW. But, in reality, they're raising questions over her suggestive (and by suggestive I mean borderline crazy person, violent, socialist nonsense) talk in online WOW forums.

Why is it troubling to knock on someone when they suggest killing people? The escapist rules state not to threaten other people/members. If I made a statement threatening your life Andy, the life of a politician, or any other member of the escapist, I'd be instabanned (DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT IN ANY WAY ADVOCATING FOR VIOLENCE AGAINST ANDY! HE'S (usually) AN AMAZING JOURNALIST WHOM I QUITE ENJOY (most of the time)! SENTENCE WAS MADE FOR ARGUMENT!).

What IS unfortunate is that, in addition to her nonsensical rants on forums, they attack her for being a WOW player. That I think anyone in the gaming community should be outraged for. But the rest of it is totally fair game.

A politician who might at times inhabit a different world to the established old-white-men habitat? PANIC AND FLEE, GOOD VOTERS.

How unbelievably stupid. Partaking in imaginary videogame violence does not translate to any intent to act out said violence in the real world. Nor does it suggest that someone is a psychopath, except in the minds of those who struggle to separate imagination and harmless recreation from reality.

In other news: entire escapist community seems to forget the Republicans outright owned the Dems in 2010 and the electoral race as a whole this year is quite close.

As a conservative, I am wholeheartedly sorry. I mean, some of the stuff is kinda-sorta-maybe legitimate, but they're obviously just grasping at straws here.

Due to the fact that the average gamer age (in the US) is 30 - 35, I fully expect this to backfire and to see her win by a landslide. Stupid backward redneck republicans.

The second is that press release from the Republican Party of Texas saying they want to take america back to the 50's in terms of gay and non-white rights, that science is just a theory and creationsim is the truth, that it shouldbe illegal for coporations to face any kind of ecological or economical regulations, etc etc. The first is that such a stupid and backwards party is one of the big two in the USA, where anywhere else it would be barely even counted as a party.

This is undoubtedly a fun result, but I'd like to believe you are aware that most Republicans try to ignore the ones you are talking about. Why yes, those morons DO believe they speak for all of us Republicans. Would you like to wager I can't find a bunch of morons who claim to be Democrats that would make you swear not to know them?

And therefore I would like to think that as a modern day Republican, you might choose to not vote Republican on the basis that the party platform is based on a litany of regressive economic and social ideas and policies. The problem is not individual crackpots, but a political party that actively campaigns against gay/lesbian and women's rights; cuts taxes for high income earners and expects the "benefits" to "trickle down"; denies basic, affordable health care for tens of millions of people; and wants citizens to be able to own and use military style automatic assault rifles. And that's the short list.

Yes there are extremist views on the political left, but I would suggest they are not represented in the national political discourse of the Democrats. If Republicans (or Democrats) disagree with their party's politics and stated values but do nothing, they are more culpable than anyone who blindly tows the line. Mitt Romney is Exhibit A for flipping his views to appease the hard right evangelical conservatives.

One of these is not like the others. How is being "socialist" a valid point of attack, except to people still stuck in a paranoid McCarthyist mindset?

None of what she said is crazy or suggestive of a violent personality, you're being led along by reactionary scaremongering.

None of said posts were actual or serious threats, nor could they be interpreted that way by reasonable standards. People say "I'm going to murder you!!!" or "You're dead!!!" all the time, either jokingly or as an expression of frustration without any murderous intent.

Micheal Savage does it and get's his own nationally heard talk show.

Then why is it okay for Ann Coulter to do it? She's talked about poisoning supreme court justices and she get's to be a best selling author and Fox News pundit for it.

She's a senator from my home state of Maine and I must say I'm very proud. She'd have my vote easily is she was in my district. A senator who looks forward to "dick punching Arthas" is okay by me.

All well this wont have much political effect as the Indepent is expected to win by a fairly safe margin.

....They do realise that this is going to cause her to get pretty much the ENTIRETY of the Youth Vote right? I mean, I live nowhere near Maine, i'm not even american, I don't know anything about this womans politics or policies, and yet I still want to vote for her.

Huh, a Senate Candidate who plays an incredibly popular game, which, in my rose-tinted optimistic happy-place world means that she might actually be more in touch with those she's representing than any other candidate I've seen.

Were I American, she'd have won my vote.

Yes because healthy people never let off steam or relax and instead let there emotions boil over until they go on a murderous rampage... and stab people to death... wait...

Attacking someone for there past time is just about the dumbest thing ever. You might as well say playing golf means you can't run for office because its too much of a distraction. If you could show that she herself plays too much, you could have a point but just saying 'you play a game!' is just about as dumb as it gets. I can only imagine a bunch of 60 and 70 year old guys who don't understand games came up with this idea but at the same time they need the maturity of an 8 year old to think this is a good attack. Confusing that.

The central question of WoWgate is who thinks DPS atnds for Deaths Per Second? If that's actually part of a quote by Colleen Lachowicz, then she's clearly unfit for office. If that's something the people attacking her added, they just solidified the view of most people that they're totally clueless.

Mr. Chalk, you must get to the bottom of this for us.

Gearhead mk2:
...this is the third most stupid and disturbing thing I've seen out of the republican party.

Seriously?

Starting insanely expensive wars around the world? Blaming 9/11 on liberals? Anti-gay rampages? Bases on the Moon? Dogs tied to car roofs? Mocking the poor?

And this is what you find the most stupid and disturbing?

POLITICS!

Really this is an non-issue, so from now on I will put things I do in games on this forum in case I run for office

- I really enjoy slaughtering those black heartless creatures with a Key (Kingdom Hearts)
