I watched the videos, but all I could thinkof as long as my speakers were on was a blind, deaf person slamming uncontrollably on a keyboard... When I turned off my speakers, I managed to form an opinion. Unfortunately, this opinion was "Holy Bullet Hell, Batman, how can anyone even remotely enjoy such nonsense?!"
Christ on a bread bin you guys are delicate little snowflakes aren't you? "Waah you insulted us all!" "Waah stop talking about things I don't like" "Waah stop saying bad things about what I do like" "You're a troll!" "No you're a troll!" yadda yadda etc. I've seen less tears at a first time anal convention. I've finally cracked the code, the Escapist forums (cause sweeping statements are kewl) is /v/ with a thesaurus and some kind of complex about "objectively" proving things wrong.
I suggest you actually read through the thread and count the number of people actually acting like that... You'll find it to be a minority at best.
Oh my god, I had that happen to me and a friend while we were playing BF2 years ago, We had no idea what was going on but it was hilarious. I guess now the mystery is solved. OT: I had heard about this game a while ago, I think in a thread on this site asking if liking one of it's characters would be considered loli?.. but don't really have any interest in playing it. It has a decent art style but in terms of gameplay and story there isn't much there to grab my attention.
Gonna have to run that one by me again. How're those analogically comparable? Asking this 'cause I know nothing of Touhou, to be honest.
You have a drunken/unsteady view of this site? And you would probably have been better off reducing that entire first post down to two paragraphs (or less) and one video. I don't get the feeling many people on this site are all that interested, so better to hook them with a short post that they might actually read.
If you say so mate. The first comment alone was snarky and tearful and bar a scattering of others it was all the same from there. Plus the OP quickly went from "Heres a game series" to "I hate this place you all bully me" Hyperbolic maybe, but minority at best? Poppycock my friend, poppycock. EDIT: I am of course referring to the first page since it was all that was there when I read the thread. It could be all sunshine, daisies and loli in the second for all I know.
Ok, OP, you want us to like Touhou, and I'll give it a chance. So refute this then: -It has a simple shoot/dodge gameplay style (with the occasional shield/freeze/powerup etc gimmick) that a lot of sidescrolling shooters from a decade and older employed. It's stagnant. You see most games I like don't have the above, so for me to get interested in touhou as you apparantly want, I'd like to know if Touhou does or doesn't.
Lilith Slave, that was inspiring. Touhou seems pretty neat. Haven't played a game like that since the arcade days. The only reason ive never picked one of these games up is that I couldn't get my head around how I was a spaceship and a magical girl at the same time. Two questions 1. Which Touhou should I start with? Bonus Question: Why are all the decent Shooter em ups on XBLA?
Why should we CAAAAAREEEE?! These games seems so dull to me. Give me a reason to examine them more closelyer.
Don't know that much about Touhou mate, but I have to say, just because they've been using the same mechanical style over and over, doesn't make it stale. Innovation isn't some magical godsend that makes a game better. Iteration tends to work a lot better. Also, Magical Girls.
Sorry but my god is thor And nothing you can do to sway me from him especially After that awesome documentary of him saving new York
Innovation, iteration. . . I just want to know if it has something to make it better than many 10 year old games, which it seems to look exactly like except with less enemies and more 'bullets' and with. . magical girls. Also, Magical Girls are a cheap ploy to abuse the viewer's liking of submissive sexualized females.
| |
Apart from that, no idea. This thread is now about Magical Girls.
I don't have the reflexes to be good at bullet hells, but props to those who do. I like the fact that the genre produces games that are balanced and hard vs. the pseudo-interactive cinematic experiences that some devs see as the ideal of gaming.
Well, chess hasn't changed significantly in the last few centuries. The various incarnations of Tetris haven't change significantly, either. When a genre has the simplicity of: "here are some things, dodge them," I don't really see how much the gameplay can be refined beyond giving the player interesting patterns of things to dodge.
Here we go again. You complaint about us that we are intolerant to anime and that we say stuff like: "Its anime so its shit" I would defend your right to like anime but after the multitude of threads created by you that are filled with anime and that are written in an way that completely dismisses everything else in favor of praising what you like, I just can't. Your mind is incredibly narrow in the way that you treat everyone that is diferent then you like a dick. Why would you post this knowing that barely anyone knows about it (and is interested in it) here in the Escapist? If you want to let people know about it dont say "This is the best thing ever and you are an idiot if you never played it", just say "I have been playing this game and loving it, what other games have you been playing lately and loving?". Notice the question? That is important to start a thread, let people also spread a bit of what they like and if they happen to like what you like then great, if they don't then move on. You, for what you do here in the forums, are a door-to-door religious guy. This is our reaction to what you do:
*sighs*
*sighs* Im basically going to repeat my point but....you just called this game a giant, when it is an indie game...and its not in english. Last I checked a majority of people on the Escapist speak english and are going to be primarily in English speaking countries. The game may very well be incredibly popular in Japan, but that is just one country, and a vast majority of users on this website...dont live there. You may be overestimating the games popularity be juuuuuuust a little bit. Also..its a bullet hell shooter...I haven't seen one of those in fewp...6-7 years? Even for an indie game thats a pretty obscure genre nowadays. On top of that..its a freaking bullet hell shooter...a genre normally associated with very difficult reflex skills and a ton of precision. Ie really difficult games. Its like if you took IWBTG and made it even more obscure, and translated it to spanish then being suprised when nobodies heard of it. Also..do you really expect to get a positive response out of this? You made a thread about this before..then spent the entire time basically shrugging people off as ignorant, and generally didnt leave a good impression, and now here you are ready to "enlighten us all". Not the way to get your point across, it just screams of arrogance.
That seems like a game that wasn't designed with me in mind at all. It's not that I don't like impossible challenges (flying upwards-down through a train tunnel with the jumpjet in San Andreas, anyone?), but bullet hell games just don't interest me. At all.
Allow the player to change direction ie more movement than up down left right, have the player go trough actual environments, camera changes, a progression system, more than one attack button, shooting in a different direction than just foward i.e. with the mouse. . . and I could go on and on and on.
A lot of people obviously recommend it be done semi-chronologically. But if you want friendly, I personally recommend Imperishable Night. It is an all around great game, welcoming for newcomers on Easy mode, and brutally difficult Last World spellcard bonuses for those who want a challenge.
That's number 8 right? That's by far my favourite. Pretty damn good at it too.
Damn you! Now I can't help think of Squids! D:
Thanks but no thanks. Looks like a messy clusterfuck of noise and epilepsy, not helped by a (probably unnecessary) completely batshit story filled with high-pitched anime schoolgirls squeaking at you and tedious hour long boss fights involving you sanding down a giant health bar atom by atom while dodging instant death.
Well, I´d give it a try, i suppose. I think i like bullet hell games, tho I´ve only played one. And i did fairly well. Then again, I´m pretty damn sure this is A LOT harder than that little Flash game i played.... Also, even tho I haven`t played any Touhou games, I´ve most of those meme vids. They`re pretty decent stuff, except the McDonald`s one...that just creeps me out.
I'm amazed people don't know about Touhou. Really? I'm pretty ignorant but even I know about it. It's like not knowing about say Metro 2023
to be more serious, no but Touhou does produce a large amount of doujinshi's. Which then naturally leads to eroge.
I hate to be that guy but I don't know Japanese.
I thought if you knew hentai(pervert/erotica) you would know comic-books and porn. I don't know Japanese either I just thought you would know Sorry!
You've been to a first time anal convention!? I didn't know they had such a thing...
Lol, I love when guys get butthurt about things like this. The reason there's no problem with games with only female characters is that we need more of them. Since western male gamers are too sexist to handle female characters in "guy games", it stands to reason that the female characters needed to have a reasonable gender balance are in games without dudes. Which we need more of. A lot more. Butthurt about this? Tough shit. Maybe reconsider crying emo tears next time a female character appears in a game whiny dudes think shouldn't have female characters in it. Example: Risen 2 fans, and the ignorant sexism from these gamer "males" who think female pirates didn't exist (or were "unrealistic" - actual quote used by someone here on the escapist), and who thought medival society didn't have female blacksmiths (both proven wrong by, you know, facts - 25% of London's blacksmiths were female in 1400 for example) Touhou has issues, this one isn't it.
No, it's not. Even I know it, after all.
It is alright. I know of Hentai I just watch regular porn instead. I know my favourite actresses and oh why am I telling the world this!
They exist, but they're a pain in the arse to find.
Snarky and tearful? Me? Surely you jest!
Wat. Next time, quote my whole post as it makes your whole post look laughable.
I'll point out the bit in particular.
I'm just pointing out her hypocrisy, I have no issue with the game and that fact makes it look like you are just looking for any excuse to start blathering seeing as you intentionally erased the part of my post that mentioned I didn't care. And your logic is flawed, you don't solve a problem by just trying to reverse roles, you solve it by making the numbers roughly equal or at least having them make sense in context. Slavery in the USA wasn't solved by making white people slaves and having black people be their masters. Try harder next time.

Don't be crazy dude....
Of course there Touhou hentai!
Perhaps it wasn't intended as a hentai but it's out there.........it's out there.
