Saints Row Reboot Reveal Set for Gamescom

Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley is teasing a Saints Row reboot that is set to be revealed when the event begins next week. Keighley started to stir up hype for the return of publisher Deep Silver’s tongue-in-cheek crime series on Twitter, saying the Gamescom team is “’Bossing’ it with our announcements this year,” seemingly referencing the franchise’s player character nickname. The tweet also includes a graffiti-covered brick wall, with the word “rebooting” placed next to the Saints Row logo. The franchise’s official Twitter account even went as far as to reply to Keighley’s post with a meme picture of Keighley. The big reveal will take place when Gamescom starts on Wednesday, August 25, at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET.

Keighley’s original post additionally links back to a teaser page set up at the Saints Row website. The page includes references to Deep Silver as well as Saints Row series developer Volition. An “M” rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) can also be found toward the bottom of the page. You can follow another link on the website to sign up for future updates.

It’s been nearly a decade since the last full-fledged Saints Row game — 2013’s Saints Row IV — was released. While the open-world game did eventually receive standalone DLC in the form of Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, fans of the franchise have only had the 2020 remaster of Saints Row: The Third to cling on to. Hope for a proper return of the franchise came in 2019, however, when THQ Nordic promised that a fifth major Saints Row game was “deep in development” at Volition. Promises that we’ll see the mystery Saints Row title have come and gone, but after Deep Silver said that the series would be absent at E3 2021, fans are understandably ready to see what Keighley’s Gamescom Opening Night Live show has to offer with a reboot.
