Destiny 2: Beyond Light Revealed, The Witch Queen & Lightfall Planned

Bungie has laid out a three-year roadmap for Destiny 2, promising to support the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. General Manager Mark Noseworthy and Game Director Luke Smith pulled back the curtain as part of a livestream event today, while also detailing the contents of this year’s expansion, Destiny 2: Beyond Light. Bungie had been promising to reveal the 2020 content for the last week or so, but Bungie also took the time to reveal 2021’s Destiny 2: The Witch Queen and 2022’s Destiny 2: Lightfall. You can see the full stream below, which begins at 20:20 with an eight-minute-and-46-second tribute to George Floyd and protests across the globe.

As speculated, Beyond Light will come with an entirely new Europa location when it launches on Sept. 22, 2020. The icy world will see players exploring new areas and features a new dark power known as Stasis. Stasis is the first new element to join Destiny since the original game launched back in 2014. Destiny 2 players are also getting a new raid with the expansion — the Deep Stone Crypt. You can watch the Beyond Light gameplay trailer below.

Players can jump into new content today with the final season of the game’s Year 3 content plans. A Pyramid ship is now on Io, and with it, of course, comes new gear and activities for players to enjoy. At 5 p.m. PT today, a new dungeon called Prophecy will open up with its own goodies for players to explore for free.

Noseworthy and Smith say that Destiny 2: Beyond Light ushers in a time of darkness. No information has been revealed for The Witch Queen and Lightfall, but Bungie did confirm that Destiny 2 will be supported by PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with 4K and 60 FPS. Players that own any of the previous expansions will see their ownership carried over to the next-gen consoles free of charge, and support for cross-play within console families is on track to launch sometime in the next year.

Bungie will continue to roll out more information on Beyond Light between now and when the expansion releases for Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in September.
