Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Drives into Your Living Room This October

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is a strange new toy and video game hybrid that allows players to control real plastic go-karts through the Nintendo Switch. Sounds strange, right? The augmented reality addition to the Mario Kart library was announced during a surprise Nintendo Direct to help celebrate Mario’s 35th anniversary. There’s a lot to digest here, so it’s probably best if you just see Nintendo’s latest contraption for yourself in the trailer below before sets launch on Oct. 16, 2020 for $99.99 each.

Come October, Mario and Luigi sets, each including their own respective toy drivers, four gates, two arrow signs, and a charging cable, will be released. Though it is unclear if other drivers will come in the future, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit will be compatible with any Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite system.

Players will be able to navigate through their own customized, real-world courses that, as shown in the trailer, will be spiced up with different in-game obstacles and hazards. You can “zoom around the house with up to three friends” too, as long as they each own Nintendo Switch consoles and copies of the game and its accessories.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit wasn’t the only bombshell announcement of the day. Nintendo also revealed Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. The former includes remasters for Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy, while the latter sees the original Wii U game coming to Switch with new features and additional content.

You can watch the entire Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct below.
