Amazon Game Studios Cancels Crucible 5 Months After Release

Crucible, the multiplayer free-to-play shooter from Amazon Game Studios, is shutting down in November, according to the game’s website. The development team announced that it had made this difficult decision because it didn’t see a “healthy, sustainable future ahead of Crucible.” Amazon Games Studios will continue working on its MMO RPG New World, as well as upcoming projects.

There will be a final playest in the next few weeks both in-game and through the game’s official Discord, but then matchmaking will be disabled after that point. However, players will still be able to play Crucible through its custom games feature that will ship soon. On Nov. 9, servers for custom games will shut down at 12pm PST.

Additionally, Amazon Games Studios is offering full refunds for any purchases made related to the game. These include the Founder’s Pack, any credits, or optional in-game items via both Steam or Amazon. Credit card purchases within Crucible will also be disabled as well.

Crucible launched earlier this year in May but then returned to a closed beta a month later in June. Check out The Escapist’s preview of Crucible.

New World‘s final beta was originally scheduled for Aug. 25, but both its launch and closed beta dates have been delayed until spring 2021.
