Fortnite Arrives Day 1 on PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X | S with Next-Gen Features

Epic Games has released details about what to expect for Fortnite on the next-generation consoles, as it will be arriving on each console on day 1. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions are native to the new hardware and aren’t just improved from the current generation. Players who have already been playing Fortnite will be able to download the game and keep their progression and cosmetics. Cross-play remains available as well.

When Xbox Series X | S launches on Nov. 10, Fortnite on Series X will support 4K resolution at 60 FPS while the Series S supports 1080P at 60 FPS. Visuals are improved too, with more fluid animations for smoke and liquid, as well as cloud and storm effects. Faster loading times also means improved texture loading and that players can hop into matches quicker going from the game’s start-up screen. Additionally, split screen supports 60 FPS on both Series X and S.

Fortnite on PlayStation 5 supports the same graphical upgrades as on Series X, with some additional unique features to its hardware and social functionality. The DualSense controller’s haptic feedback will simulate the feeling of holding different weapons such as the Suppressed SMG and Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle. The PS5’s Activities function will also be supported through Fortnite, and players can go directly into lobbies to play Solo, Duos, or Squads.

To commemorate the launch of the new consoles, players can pick up the classic default Pickaxe from Fortnite Chapter 1 from Nov. 4 to Jan. 15, 2021.

This is good news and publicity for Fortnite, as both Epic Games and the title have been under some scrutiny from Epic’s legal battle against Apple.
