PlayStation 5 Update Adds Notification For Players Unintentionally Playing PS4 Games

Sony has added a PlayStation 5 feature in an update to help clear up confusion when choosing which version of a game to play. Players have been vocal about the complicated cross-gen support on the new console, which allows players to choose between using the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 version of a game when a player has access to both. To help make things clearer, today’s console update adds a notification before starting up cross-gen-supported titles.

As you can see in the below tweet from Twitter user Tidux, Sony is asking to “confirm game version” before starting up Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on PlayStation 5. The notification also adds the ability to change to the PlayStation 5 version with little room for ambiguity. Prior to the update, the only way to switch between versions would be by checking via the options menu on the PlayStation 5 dashboard.

This badly desired feature is surely only the beginning of the new console’s long line of improvements to come. Sony’s PlayStation 4 successor launched last month, Nov. 12, and has unsurprisingly been met with feature requests from owners. As we continue through the console’s life cycle, Sony will no doubt add a wide variety of quality-of-life improvements in updates both large and small.

We first saw what the new UI would look like in October, when Sony debuted a breakdown video showing off many of the features coming to the console.
