Sackboy: A Big Adventure Gameplay Video, Deluxe Editions Revealed Ahead of PlayStation 5 Launch

PlayStation and Sumo Digital have shared a video that highlights some of the thinking that went into PlayStation 5 launch title Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Design director Ned Waterhouse takes center stage in the video uploaded today. The footage packs in lots of next-gen details and gameplay, but you can see for yourself below.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure features LittleBigPlanet’s adorable craft hero without many of the same elements fans have come to know the series for. As Waterhouse explains, the goal for the PlayStation 5 title from the get-go was to provide an experience solely dedicated to play, leaving the creating and sharing for the previous three titles. An emphasis on gameplay allowed Sumo Digital to “create a game that’s built from the ground up to be an amazing 3D platformer.”

In Sackboy: A Big Adventure, players will notice that Sackboy’s controls and moves have been completely redesigned from scratch, meaning the character has droves of new abilities to help navigate through each level. Sumo Digital promises that no two levels are the same and that the entire experience will run at 60 FPS.

As previously shown during Sackboy: A Big Adventure’s reveal, the game is co-op compatible, and Waterhouse teases that players will be able to “help and hinder” their friends when playing locally or online. The game will also offer a set of levels designed specifically for co-op play.

Sumo Digital further revealed the game’s Digital Deluxe and Special Editions, each featuring its own set of goodies for PlayStation owners. Those that purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition on PlayStation 4 (Yes, it is also launching on that platform.) or PlayStation 5 will get some of the usual bonuses, such as a digital soundtrack and art book, but you’ll also receive four costumes modeled after some familiar Sony characters. Meanwhile, the Special Edition, which is only available for PlayStation 4 owners, includes the contents of the Digital Deluxe Edition, a physical version of the art book, and the Sackboy plush pictured below. Despite this edition only being available on PlayStation 4, Sony does offer free upgrades to the PlayStation 5 version of the game for those who own the PS4 version.
