The Mandalorian Season 2 First Images Feature Speeder and Super Casual Gina Carano

Star Wars may be in hot water on the film side of things due to a bunch of terrible decisions, but the TV aspect is still exciting as The Mandalorian season 2 races toward us. EW delivered our first look at this new season, which will see the return of Baby Yoda (“the Child”) and the rest. The new images feature the core cast of the series: Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian, Gina Caranoā€™s mercenary Cara Dune, Carl Weathersā€™ Greef Karga, and Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon.

The plot for the second season has not been revealed but will carry on “very directly” from the first with the Mandalorian searching for Baby Yoda’s homeworld and family and Moff Gideon chasing after them, Darksaber in hand. The Mandalorian will be confronted with challenges that continue to place him at odds with his ward of fellow Mandos. It also sounds like Moff Gideon will not only be pursuing the heroes physically but also trying to tempt them to the Dark Side, as any good Star Wars villain should.

ā€œThe new season is about introducing a larger story in the world,ā€ said writer/director/producer Jon Favreau, who helmed the first successful season. ā€œThe stories become less isolated, yet each episode has its own flavor, and hopefully weā€™re bringing a lot more scope to the show.ā€

That larger story is going to include a larger cast. While nothing has been confirmed by Disney, it’s believed that Rosario Dawson will be playing Star Wars: The Clone Wars‘ Ahsoka, Temuera Morrison will be playing Boba Fett or a clone soldier, and Katee Sackhoff will return as her Clone Wars character as well. However, Carano has said that some of the reports we’ve heard are true and others are not.

One thing that does seem to be true is thatĀ The Mandalorian‘s universe is going to expand a lot, and those that had an issue with the previous season’s style of having mostly one-off episodes will be happy to hear that this season will feature a bit more interconnected storytelling.

ā€œAs we introduce other characters, there are opportunities to follow different storylines,ā€ Favreau said. ā€œThe world was really captivated by Game of ThronesĀ and how that evolved as the characters followed different storylines ā€” that’s very appealing to me as an audience member.ā€

Lets all just hope that Favreau and co-producer Dave Filoni have a bit more of a plan on how they’re going wrap up their epic tale than the creators ofĀ Game of ThronesĀ did.

You can check out some of the new images below, including one of Carano leaning against a pole like she’s just hanging out. The Mandalorian will drop on Disney+ on Oct. 30.
