Ubisoft Is Not Raising Next-Gen Game Prices ‘for the Moment’

Ubisoft, Far Cry 6, next-gen, price increase Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Ubisoft has clarified that it does not intend to increase the price of its next-gen games slated to launch this year. The Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed publisher touched on the topic during its first quarter earnings call today (via Jason Schreier, Mike Futter). Prices of games launching this fall such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will stay at $60, and there are otherwise no plans to raise the prices on games “for the moment.” That being said, Ubisoft additionally clarified, “We are concentrating on the Christmas releases. We have decided those games will be launched at $60.”

The significance here is that publisher 2K revealed this month that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of NBA 2K21 — which will be next-gen launch titles — will see a price increase to $70, up $10 from the typical price. This spurred speculation that a $70 price would become the new norm in the near future, but at least for Ubisoft, this will not be the case — not instantly at least. After all, Far Cry 6 is priced at $59.99 as an Xbox One/Xbox Series X preorder and will release in February 2021.

Nonetheless, pricing plans can change, and today’s comments only guarantee a $60 price tag for titles releasing in the near future.

We’ll learn more about PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X pricing plans as we move closer to their respective launches later this year.
