Star Wars Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone season filming spring 2021 Ewan McGregor

We may be getting The Mandalorian at the end of October, but Disney+’s other live-action Star Wars television series, a show feature Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, has been pretty silent since production was delayed a few times. It’s still on track though, and McGregor has dropped a bit of information on it revealing that he believes the show will be only one season long, a mini-series.

“As I understand, it’s a standalone season,” he told ET Online in an interview about his upcoming show Long Way Up. “We’ll see. Who knows?”

Obviously, that’s not a confirmation that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will be only one season, but that is evidently the tentative plan. It seems clear Ewan McGregor isn’t signed on for multiple seasons yet. It’s interesting to hear that a show may wrap itself up in just one series with no cliffhanger ending. That could make sense given the relatively limited time frame the show encompasses between Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. (Early series information placed it eight years after Revenge of the Sith.) Just what Obi-Wan Kenobi is up to in the series and what the show will be about is still a mystery. One rumor alleged there will be a young Luke present.

McGregor also noted that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series should begin filming in the spring of next year. Deborah Chow, who helmed two episodes of The Mandalorian, is set to direct the series still. The show has seen a bit of a rocky road into production as it had production delays caused by a writing change and the current pandemic, but if it does start shooting we could see it as soon as the end of next year or early 2022 on Disney+.
