V1 Interactive, Developer of Disintegration, Is Shutting Down

V1 Interactive, the developer of last year’s sci-fi real-time strategy / FPS hybrid Disintegration, is closing its doors. The Washington-based studio announced plans to shut down on social media, saying that the team thanks those that supported its journey for the last five years.

V1 Interactive founder and Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto offered more thoughts on Twitter: “At V1, our priority has been to the wellbeing of our employees. We’ve been transparent with them about the state of things for months and are making this decision now so they still have ample time to search for new jobs while being supported by our studio.”

The decision to shut down follows the launch of V1 Interactive’s debut title, Disintegration, on PC and consoles in June of last year. The studio pulled the plug on the game’s multiplayer functionality only a few months following the game’s release, saying the change came after the mode “struggled to build a significant audience necessary for a compelling multiplayer experience.” Disintegration’s single-player mode remains available for purchase.

The Escapist’s Elijah Beahm spent time with Disintegration last year. Though he felt the game’s pacing was often disappointing, he could “see enough promise” in its mechanics and core gameplay.
