News You Might’ve Missed on 2/19/21: Hideo Kojima’s Book Comes West, Monster Hunter Digital Events, & More

It’s been a busy week (with plenty of BlizzCon announcements today), so let’s round it out with another batch of video game news before the weekend. Capcom announced new digital events for Monster Hunter Anniversary Week, Hideo Kojima’s book of influences called The Creative Gene is coming to the West, Valheim continues to succeed, and more. Here’s the video game news you might’ve missed on Feb. 19, 2021.

Monster Hunter Anniversary Week Digital Events Planned for March

Today, Capcom announced a series of Monster Hunter Anniversary Week digital events in anticipation of the release of Rise and Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. On March 8 at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET, we’ll get a Monster Hunter Digital Event. Then the following day on March 9 at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET, a new Rise gameplay showing will air, featuring tutorials and a director Q&A. (If you respond to the below tweet thread, the director might answer your question.) Finally, on March 11, Capcom will hold a community livestream, so there’s plenty to look forward to.

Konami Has Launched an Online Store

Seemingly out of nowhere, Konami has launched a new online store featuring goodies from its most famous franchises including Metal Gear, Castlevania, PES, and others. The Official Konami Shop has pretty much everything you’d expect like shirts and mugs, as well as a 20% off Grand Opening Sale. Now if only Konami would release more games, we’d be in business…

Valheim Has Now Reached 3 Million Copies Sold

It seems there’s no stopping Iron Gate, as its new survival game Valheim has reached another sales milestone, surpassing 3 million copies sold. The team was just celebrating its 2 million sales milestone just last week, and now it has even more to be proud of. Valheim is currently available in early access for Steam for $19.99.

Chun-Li and Ryu Are Coming to Fortnite

Fortnite is getting a Street Fighter crossover event with new Chun-Li and Ryu skins to unlock, among other cosmetics. Details about the event are still scarce, but Fortnite is already teasing what’s to come. If you head to a spot south of Sweaty Sands, you’ll find a portal that gives you a look into Ryu’s famous Suzaku Castle level. It’s unclear when the event will begin, but it’ll likely be soon.

Hideo Kojima’s Book, The Creative Gene, Is About His Influences and Creative Process

Hideo Kojima is partnering with Viz Media for his new book, The Creative Gene. The book will focus on Kojima’s influences, as well as his creative process, and will launch on Oct. 12, 2021. It features essays written by Kojima, exploring pieces of media that have influenced him the most. Expect to learn about the influences of Death Stranding, Metal Gear Solid, and more.
