Have you ever noted none of us here are "normal"

No-one's normal, and everyone are unique in their own way. That's not some philosophical bullshit like some of my "normal" friends would tell me, it's just common sense. "Normality" is only defined by certain social and/or cultural standards anyway; i.e. it's entirely subjective.

Internet forums (especially here) seem to attract a certain type of person, that tends to dislike the mainstream. Personally? I like coke and I like Budweiser, but I prefer Dr Pepper and Corona (for the same kind of thing as Budweiser, I'm not really sure what my favourite alcoholic drink is). I don't have anything against people being different, but it I find it a little annoying when people are trying too hard to be different or are unnecessarily harsh on something for being popular.

I'm not sure what normal is. I figure I'm not it most of the time though.

I hate beer and, strongly dislike the effects of alcohol. As for Coke it's Vanilla, Cherry then, Classic (WHY DID THEY CANCEL BLAK!?)

There's really no such thing as normal when applied to people as a collective especially since 'normal' changes every few decades. Back in the 90's it was normal for kids to go to school without cell phones after all and now it's considered weird if a kid doesn't have one by middle school.

I'm normal. Budweiser is weak horse piss though. Drink a real beer.

It's because we're a nerd gathering place. Not especially conducive to normality. Also, the escapist is more of an "omninerd/skeptic/semi-academia hangout"

so by hanging out here alto does that make me smart?

I believe you are reversing cause and effect.

That's a pet peeve of mine, though fortunately it rarely happens outside of an ironic/jocular context. But when it does, it's worse than a god damn solipsism...

OT: Well, I would consider myself somewhat normal, though I'd also say I'm interesting, so "normal" in this context possibly means I've just got most of the irritating kinks worked out of my personality, leaving only the generally acceptable, and the downright awesome? (I am aware of flaws, it's just I always try to correct them, and then wait for the next to surface, which it always does). Recent revelations do, however, lead me to believe I'm a far more complex individual than I could ever have imagined.

I'm a very well adjusted sociopath would be the most simplified way of putting it.

If you think someone is normal, you don't know them sufficiently.

Hazy992:
I fucking hate beer. Cider is where it's at!

I hate beer as well but I have never had cider thus I cannot comment. Rather I love wine, sweet wines specifically. Also Autum Orange Mead.

Hazy992:

This. I hate beer. It's really weird, I tried drinking beer, and it was the most horrible thing ever. Then I had some Cider, and it was good...
Then I had some beer, after having some cider, and it was slightly better.
After reading that, I've realised why.

And I'm an idiot.

Canadian Mist whiskey and diet 7up is my drink of choice. I can't stand beer and have tried a wide variety, they all have some taste that just makes my stomach churn. People I know say that I should try German beer cause it is a lot better so I may do that next time I get the chance.

I beg to differ, I personally set the standards for what is normal around here, and those standards are all based on my glorious self. I'm just having difficulty getting everyone else to comply, that's all.

In all seriousness, why would "normal" behavior include drink choices?

I'm personally partial to Mike's Wine Coolers, and orange crush pop. MMMMMMMMMMM drinks.
:)
As for normality it is either overrated or does not exist. I haven't quite figured out which.

But, if everyone here is abnormal, then everyone here is the same and thus normal.

I don't really feel like I have much in common with the majority of people that frequent this site, so does that make me normal or abnormal, never-mind it doesn't matter?

.. I ponder if anyone actually wakes up in the morning and think of themselves as a deviant freak of nature. >.>

all largers that aren't belgian/german are piss, all cider that isn't scrumpy/very cloudy is apple juice, irn bru is... weird. Real ale (hobgoblin, tanglefoot, etc.), strong scrumpy and fanta lemon for me

But I love coke! It's my favourite non-alcoholic drink. I don't like beer, I prefer cider.

I don't want to be normal, it sounds boring.

Hey, normalcy is overrated. (Also, I'm not a big fan of beer. I'm more of a soda person...)

I prefer Schweppes lemonade to Coke, but it doesn't mix as well with Jack Daniels. I haven't found any good beers yet- I mostly stick to cider. Are there any beers the Escapist recommends? That I can get in the UK?

TheBobmus:
My favourite beer is Budweiser; just wanted to break your heart.

Similarly, my favourite drink is Coke.

Though I think there are perhaps five things I could sound normal about.

I love coke, and no I'm not an add- oh. the drink. yeah that's ok too.

No but seriously I drink coke all day long.

No one is normal. Not at school/work, not on earth, not anywhere.

...and I'm proud of it!

Yes.
If you like tequila, try tequila-flavoured beer - Amigos or Desperados can be found in any good cornershop. (In fact, try it even if you don't like it)
I really like Tribute ale, a Cornish beer that I've seen served on tap in many pubs outside of Cornwall.
Your location in the UK will affect what beers are easily available to you though, due to the microbrewery miracle.
If you like light beers, go for a Budweiser if you've never had one.
If you've not had a Guiness, it's worth giving that a go too.

I was once told that everyone is normal until the moment you get to know something about them.

so I think you'll find that in any group of people, be it a forum or a real-life group of strangers, no one will be considered "normal" at the end of the conversation...

Yes, people on here are weird. Well bloody done.

"Normal" doesn't really exist, but yes we wouldn't be an accurate representation for the general public.

There are no normal people, just people pretending to be similar. If everyone talked freely about themselves we'd live in a real life 4chan.

perhaps society "rules" arnt always a bad thing

There would be far to much seen to unsee, our brains would melt.

The alternative crowd is a cool crowd to be with. You never know what you'll pick up.

I'm proud to not be normal! I just don't get all pretentious about it.

Woodchuck Amber. Unless they have Spring on the market (it is sadly only available during the Spring). Or, if I can find it, Crispin's Honey Crisp is fantastic.

"Normal" is just a social construct some humans use to gain a sense of grounding and stability. It's used as a qualifier far too much, I want to slap people in the face everytime they say "you're not normal!" as if it's something to be ashamed of.

Also, this.

There are no "normal" people and those that try to be are media deformed puppets.

This just in, hipster is the new "normal".

(kidding!)

EDIT: DOUBLEPOST

Mine too :D
And whaaaattt?? People in the gaming/internet community aren't normal O.o [/sarcasm]

Well, that really depends, we tend to be normal for the community we belong to, not normal by people outside the community's standards. And I have to agree, I have discovered some awesome things thanks to this site and its wonderful users...
