people who claim starcraft 2 are this and that are the true "fanboys".

Fanbois of thinking the WORLDS most sold/played game for several years atleast is crap only due to in their demented worlds that something that good must be bad because it makes em feel important.

fact and closed.

Wow, luckily your opinion goes above and beyond any reprieve... Sad little man...

(sigh) You know, I enjoy StarCraft, I also love World of Warcraft, or any other game Blizzard creates, purely for the amount of effort they place into each game they create, and how it clearly shines through in the end results. On the other hand I dislike playing driving games or any type of sport games. Now I don't go out of my way to bash them, especially not to people who enjoy them.

What I don't understand is, why cant you flaming idiots see that tastes differ? So you don't like something, deal with it. Why bash it? Is it out of insecurity that you cant grasp the enjoyment something brings someone else? There is a difference between giving your opinion and being ignorantly dim.

If you dislike StarCraft, then don't play it. If someone else enjoys him, grant it to him, it wont deteriorate the things you enjoy. So why try so hard to destroy the things he enjoys?

Humanity is pathetic...

Well a game can still be good and not like it ofc, like i said with SOC i dont think its anything great, but that doesn't mean i hate it to the extent of the SC2 haters on this board, which almost certainly is just trolling. Or some closet troll thinking he's looking at it in a objective manner.

Most frequent thing brought up is lan support. So SOTC don't have lan support or any multiplayer support?? do people hate on it for that?

You obviously missed the whole point of the post completely.

If you had read a few posts on this forum and see how much hate there is going towards the SC2 then you might have actually posted something constructive.

Sorry man, in hindsight I was unfair and I did miss the point of your post by a mile.

I can't understand how people moan so much about lan support. Blizzard can - and most probably eventually will - add it in a future update. Battle.net has been upgraded immensely and works brilliantly. For all intents and purposes it is lanning from the comfort of your home. Only problem comes from organizing small tournaments or even a local get together, which still seems moot if you take in the party system, Real ID, and ladder league features. It's better than lanning a tournament if you ask me.

As for constructive input, why bother I ask you. I have read the posts that came before and while some defend it, about 90% of the criticism came in the form of, SCII is lame because I can't play strategy games therefore it must be lame as well, or the game is over hyped and we all know hype is wrong so I wont play it because judging from all the hype it must be overly lame, and naturally the people who hate fan boys just for the sake of hating something in their meaningless existence to give themselves some sense of purpose.

There is not much you can say to defend the game constructively if people troll on in a moronic manner. I'm thinking you implied much the same as I do here that people don't try to play the game before judging it, or even go into the game with the mindset to even give it a fair chance. Like my girlfriend always say: don't argue with an idiot, he will drag you down to his level and beat you through experience.

It's sad how people cant be satisfied no matter how good a thing you deliver. They moan that SCII is so unchanged, it's basically the first game with a graphics overhaul. But change the game and people moan that it's not the same game anymore and practically ruined. What exactly do you want then? People like that are pampered little brats and nothing in life will satisfy them.

As for people who go on about how not-so-strategic RTS games are, well that takes time. SCI is considered the most balanced game to date, only because balance patches were still being released many years after the game was launched. Most RTS games don't have years, or are too unbalanced to begin with.

To me SCII was a vivid experience, much like its predecessor. As where games like Mass Effect 1 and 2, Assassin's Creed 1 and 2, Knights of the Old Republic, Warcraft 1 through 3, Diablo 1 and 2, Half Life, Resident Evil 2, C&C Red Alert, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Dune 2...
These were all games that defined true experiences for me. To you they may differ, and I will grant you that. Why try diminish it to you just because I took nothing away.

Lastly, and this is what gets to me, proving we are spoiled to levels of stupidity. We live in an age where mediums of experience are refined to pique our senses unlike any generations before. Until the previous millennium people only had books, still an awesome medium to stimulate the imagination. The previous generation were given film and television, which is still evolving today, even into a three dimensional art form. We grew up on a next level, experiencing story not only in our thoughts or as a spectator, but as a participant.

If you cant see that then you are blind, stupid, or pampered beyond repair. Yes, some books, films, and games are of lesser quality, but beyond those we can at least appreciate the many that strive further. Granted we are different beings of different tastes, so enjoy the forms of entertainment crafted towards you. If you look at things through the perspective of fanboy rubbish or beneath you omnipotence, then congratulations you empty void of a soul, you are the evolved form of fucked up.

Oh this game. I love this game like no other.
One thing I noticed that wasn't mentioned was how well the soundtrack worked with the game.
Whenever you killed a colossus, it would com crashing down to earth, and it would play that awe-struck, perhaps even remorseful track that makes you realize that this unimaginably ancient creature has just died. It's been killed, by you. A scrawny little kid with a fancy little sword who wants to cheat the natural order of things and bring his dead girlfriend back to life.
It makes me feel like I'm the antagonist. I'm killing mountains for the sake of a grain of sand.

Yahtzee, You Twat, You didn't even give Starcraft 2 a try. Judging a book by its cover I see. You did review Brutal Legends, Red Alert 3, and Halo Wars. What's wrong trying out another RTS?

I never thought Yahtzee would review SotC. To be honest I haven't even played it, just heard nothing but good things over the years. It's on my 'to play' list though.

That said, I'd like to see him criticize Starcraft 2, but it wouldn't be right if he hasn't played Starcraft.

In my opinion? I gave Starcraft a 10 and Starcraft 2 a 6.5. Yeah, Blizzard ruined it for me.

A pretty good review, although I am surprised that Yahtzee didn't mention the camera. As much as I love SotC, the camera in it is awful.

Upon reviewing the comments, I'm actually hoping Yahtzee does a ZP for Starcraft II.
Because we all know that, if you actually bother him about it to the point that he says "Fuck it." He's going to tear the game apart.
And then what will you do? You'll bitch even harder.
It'll be Brawl all over again.

Thank goodness Yahtzee actually is liking something for a change :):):)
Good on him.
m@

So I guess I'm not the only one who does rage-filled shot practice with whatever projectile weaponry I have on hand?

Good to know.

I should be thankful that I don't own any automatic weapons, though. God only knows what would happen if I did.

Hunter.Wolf:
Sigh, you don't seem to understand the he doesn't like RTS at all ... neither CoH nor SC2.

(I know it's an old post, w/e)

I know he wouldn't like it by pure principle of it being an RTS (He's made it plainly obvious he has little love for the genre as a whole), I was simply giving my own opinion on the matter.

Well, I'd like that 5 minutes of my life back. At first I thought that it's a little odd seeing review of a game that's been out for god knows how long; I thought that maybe there is another newly released title that somehow had the exact same name or something. But I was wrong.

I've always thought that the swearing thing fits Yahtzee really well, because it sort of gives me the impression that this guy means business. But now I realized that Yahtzee only swears becuase he is a cunt, a dick that like to screw every living thing on the face of the Earth.

Well, my patience with Yahtzee is running thin, so I told myself that the next time I saw something this unprofessional, I should stop watching zero-punctuation for good. I mean there was the DC tour where it's basically couple minutes watching couple dudes driving, and there is this tantrum.......enough is enough !!

Was there actually anything wrong with the video? You should be more specific about your complaint if you want anything done about it. If it was just the fact that he's reviewing an old game, there's not a lot to be done, I don't think anything (important)is really out right now that he hasn't reviewed. I could be wrong...

in my defense, all I could say is that a review should be about recently released title. The purpose of the review is to warn people about crooked game so we don't get cheated out of our money by untalented and possibly evil game developers.

This review is clearly done way pass the released date and by then people who're interested in that title has already bought it and people who hasn't bought it probably never will. I mean seriously, who here at this forum are willing to wait this long for a review about WOW or Half-life 2 before they are confident enough to give it a shot?

To sum it up, I felt that it's a waste of my time to see/hear about a review on a topic that's clearly outdated.

There were several instances where I for one never played a game and never would of if I hadn't watch a recent review like this one or watching an old review. Portal, Metroid Prime, Kirbies' Nightmare in Dreamland, American McGee's Alice...

still hold that FLASHBACK for the sega megadrive (better than SNES version) is one of the best games ever made.

Another great review!

SO great in fact, it actually made me go out and buy a PS2 and SotC. I shit you not. (As well as Killer 7)

Good review. Never had a PS2 but do have a PS3 so I'm praying for a Team Ico collection. Also would anybody like to get together and start that awesome game of Hungry Hungry Hippos? Cause it must happen at least once throughout history

One problem the fruit was more like a level up and the lizards were more like experience points in my opinion. It is a great game though.

Look at the comment by Reborious just below you (he ran out and bought a PS2 and this game because of this review). Now make a note of why your comment is pretty weak. Just because a game happens to be 5 years old doesn't mean it's completely irrelevant. There is no reason why we shouldn't look back at our favorite games to remember what it is that makes a great game in the first place.

Yahtzee did that. What did you do? You whined. I'm not exactly sure what you think the point of that is.

BTW, you can play Shadows of the Collosus in HD, on your computer, with an emulator. Not a lot of people realize this.

I never liked this game. It was probably one of the biggest disappointments I've ever experienced. The controls were horrible, the graphics were not anything special, the soundtrack wasn't memorable, the story was bland, and the game play was yawn-worthy. The only good thing about the game was the amazing scale of the colossi which had me in awe...well for the first few anyway. The game was the most boring thing I touched and for the life of me I couldn't get the praise.
It's not that I don't like unique game styles, I loved okami, but I just felt there wasn't anything there worth all the praise. If I want a good story I'll go play Legacy of Kain: Defiance. At least I actually cared about the characters in that one.

WHURR? hahaha i lold XD
Fantastic review mate, luve the game as much as i luved this review^_^

You know it's only a matter of time before someone makes a SotC SC2 map.

Think Yahtzee would review it then?

Yers, one of the most awesomest ventures in gameplay ever. Quite frankly spectacular. I also loved the fact that the horse acted like a horse and not like a medieval car. Let me explain. In car games (GTA3x for example) cars act (quite understandably) like cars. You need to keep your foot on the accelerator to keep them moving, and you need to steer to avoid crashing into things. In games where horses are a form of transport, more often than not they act like the cars described above. Fallen Earth horses do this. However in SotC the horse actually acts like the intelligent animals it is. You gee it up a bit to get it going and then it goes, and you can actually take your finger off the button and it still goes. And if it comes to the edge of a cliff, it won't mindlessly bail over the edge like some equine car, it'll actually follow the clifftop, by itself! No steering necessary! And if you gallop into a shady grove, it'll get spooked and come to a halt, and it takes awhile to get it going again. Your steed actually has personality. Simple and effective. Marvelous.

I LOOOOOVEEEE ME SOME SHADOW OF COLOSSUS!

DAMN GOOD DAMN DAMN GOOD DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN GOOD Review.

Loved this one the most of all and I had been anticipating for almost more than a year that Yahtzee would review Shadow of the Colossus and now.....WHOOHOO is all I can say :D

Nice one people at the escapist, I love the new format for Yahtzee's videos!
its nice and easy to skip back to earlier bits in the vid and over all is a nice improvement. Love all your work on this website
best of luck with all the new episodes to come Yahtzees, Love em! :)

dex-dex:
way to go!

that review was dam good dam dam dam good good good dam dam good

On the strength of this review, I bought a copy of the game at Fry's ($18.00). I just finished killing the salamander (what a huge pain in the patoot), and am now working on the turtle in the geyser field.

The horse doesn't steer very well. And my mastery of the controls is still questionable.

The game actually feels kinda puzzling. I'm so used all kinds of stuff going on all the time that SotC feels enormous, barren, and lonely. I almost want to sit down and have conversations with the lizards that infrequently dot the landscape. When I encountered a small slow-moving turtle on my way to Colossus 6 (I think), I wondered if its appearance was significant.

It's a very lonely quest this guy is on. And the first time the licorice twizzlers entered his body after killing the first Colossus, it was obvious things would not end well for him, making the story kinda bleak as well.

Shadow of the Colossus is, despite its flaws, a prime example of how a game can ascend far above the hundreds of other titles competing for our interests.

Still feel bad about colossi no. 13, Phalanx. He didn't even attempt to attack you, the poor bastard :(

Wait.What?

Shooting things increased your holding endurance?

Regardless, loved this game.

A very bittersweet and melancholy quest. A shame I could never find a copy of ICO afterwards.

About time, was waiting for you to do this review, and its pretty accurate too. SOC was a masterpiece, along with okami its one of those 15 minutes of fame jobs that get fuck all funding. i really really really really hope they put it onto future platforms and maybe even by the blessing of god update some textures and sounds. twould be killer.

There's an "HD" combo release of Shadow of the Collosus and ICO coming out for PS3 next spring: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/09/hd-icosotc-remake-official-last-guardian-coming-in-2011.ars

I was about to buy a used copy but I think I'll wait for this. Happy memories.

Win! but wait, what the fuck is a "European ending"? Im from Ireland, we get the same shit endings that the rest of the world gets. do they project an upside down bowl of black and white fruit onto a tree or somthing like german expressionist art? they should stick with the originals, i knew they would ruin somthing, theres always somone in one of these studios that thinks they can fix everything by being innovative. well at least its going to be in 3D with a good enough frame rate. :D

Greetings fellow fans of Shadow of the Colossus! I am Daniel, an contestant in Capcom's "Bonne Mecha Proposals" contest. The contest is to vote on the best entry for a fan-made boss to be included in "MegaMan Legends 3" for Nintendo 3DS. My entry, PHOBOS, is a colossal size dragon; my entry is as tall as SKYSCRAPER! PHOBOS is way bigger than everybody elses entry, and everyone else had limited the creativity of their entries to squids, octopi, other water cretures, and spiders. I have spent a whole TWO WEEKS WITH SLEEPLESS NIGHTS to plan and create everything you will see at this link

http://www.capcom-unity.com/devroom/go/thread/view/114725/26359393/Daniel_Z_is_proud_present_to_CAPCOM_and_the_Bonne_Family_with_the_text_plans_for_PHOBOS

My competitors fear the massiveness of PHOBOS, they mock his homage to Shadow of the Colossus, they mock my plan to have MegaMan to fight a colossus -- therefore, the naysayers of PHOBOS also naysay Shadow of the Colossus! My competitors even hassled SmillinSlayer for being brave enough to prase my hard work, for believeing in the realization of a new colossus style boss battle.

So, my fellow fans of Shadow of Colossus, to realize the dream to have a Shadow of the Colossus style boss battle in a MegaMan game on a 3D handheld system,
copy and paste the link

http://www.capcom-
unity.com/devroom/go/thread/view/114725/26359393/Daniel_Z_is_proud_present_to_CAPCOM_and_the_Bonne_Family_with_the_text_plans_for_PHOBOS

register in Capcom, and vote 5 stars for PHOBOS! The more 5 star ratings PHOBOS receives, the closer we fans of Shadow of the Colossus can be
to topple a brand new colossus!

A comment of praise for PHOBOS will also show the disbelievers of a battle with a colossus can and will work on the Nintendo 3DS!

I really enjoy the theme of exploration and the contrasting gameplay in SotC, but the controls (Mind you, this was on the early PS2, when varied control schemes were still groovy) make me want to shoot furious blood out of my eyes. There was rarely a point playing that game that I pressed X actually trying to summon my horse, instead of while trying to stab Mister snake monster.
