Jimquisition: Solving the Sexism Situation

Well, at least you had your second chance! Should prob just stick with Destructoid, this isn't really 'Pist material.

MatsVS:
A different, perhaps more radical, solution:

How 'bout we objectify no one, and only place men or women in revealing clothing when it is tangential to exploring their character and/or fits their cultural/geographical background. You know, as in good storytelling that is inclusive and realistic at the same time.

Why don't we solve world hunger and create world peace while we're at it?
Sorry, didn't mean to be rude. I think the joke in the episode is that stopping objectifying women is just so unrealistic that it likely won't happen. Most people are aware of how and why all the objectifying is wrong, but even today (maybe even more so in some) almost all forms of media objectifies women, and to a certain extent men.[/quote]

That doesn't make it right. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to change it. There was a time when it was just a given the black people weren't as smart as white people or that women shouldn't be allowed to vote. But those ideas changed, there is no institution that is beyond change.

This guy is pretty much piggy-backing off of what commentators like Yahtzee, Moviebob, and the Extra Credits crew have been saying for a while now. The host just seems to be trying too hard to make a name for himself. I mean, The "Jimquisition," seriously? My only serious critique is that host needs to get over himself.

I can't lie,but I think that's part of the "joke"

So he's like the Movie Movie's guys that just rehash the same two jokes throughout their "parody" movies? Now I feel almost sorry for him.

fail... again... it might be better if it was a less broad and overly done topic (for his second time) and the fact thats its not entertaining, and weak arguemently. both moviebob and extraceditz have already perfected game discussion shows and this guy is several hundred lbs of unimaginitive boring, in a black jacket.

Said and done before hand.

Want to catch my attention? Come up with something that hasn't already been said.

Though this one did make me chuckle at one point. (Punching babes with your cock, think about it......)

"PLEASE NO!~~~~ You don't know what you are unleashing... women players population will increase! this male dominated hobby would be flooded with female players, and we'll have to suffer the grotesque imagery that women had to suffered through! no!~ half naked guys on games, showing off their man parts...in erotic ways...while killing zombies... shower scenes with men... men showing more "meat"... NOOOOO things would look soooo homo!~" (homophobic)

LOL good job!~ will keep watching...

"Sexist England Prevails" is what he should have said at the end

This guy's opinion is the closest to my own (assuming he isn't being ironic) and he does approach the problem from a different angle than extra credits, but I think the format of the show is a little cheap. Maybe a written column would be better.

Bostur:
Nice to see Jim back. I was worried the comments from his last show might have discouraged him.

Also contrary to popular belief, watching penises do not make you blind, or gay, or turn you into a mutant.

Good thing too, otherwise The Lost and Damned would make all GTA players spiral into a pit of despair.

------------

Still, I'm glad Jim's show will be a regular thing as well. Seems it might be bi-weekly at this point, but that's fine if it is.

The sexism bit in this one made me laugh a few times, especially his bit about putting men in loincloths as well as women. Appealing to both sides would be interesting, but I think he meant that we should grow up a bit more on the issue first, then work to correct it in games. I would agree.

This guy reminds me of Michael Moore, in the fact that even if you agree with his points, it's really hard to agree with him.

Jim the problem is bigger than just scantily clad females (and not as much scantily clad males). Granted a lot of these issues can apply to other medium as well but still...

Also the mode you suggested for Duke Nukem isn't comparable to capture the babe.

extra credits did it...and better might I add. Is this guy trying to be ironic/sarcastic, because frankly he's not funny in the least. Honestly, this show needs to go. I don't see the show getting any better, unless that horny 14 year old boy they got drawing penises on Microsoft Paint photoshop. Honestly wtf with all the microsoft paint drawings of penis?

And still Jim proves to be 1 of the only 2 reasons I come to escapist.

Well that and the "he's up his own ass" thing

Something that pisses me off about this is that if a user said the same things or posted the same images of half-naked men, penis wolves, and Duke Nukem with no pants on, they'd be promptly banned. If we can't do that, then why should we tolerate him doing it?

Hell ya objectification for all !!!!

there is barely any real sexism in games. Most people are just oversensitive. Every game I've ever seen called sexist never actually was.

Jimquisition: alienating half its potential audience since 2011.

At least when he started talking about men in chainmail bikinis I started to guess he wasn't serious, but some people do honestly believe this, and this satire does nothing to persuade them that it's an unhealthy attitude to have.

Still better than Movie Bob.

For those complaining, the solution is simple: don't watch his videos. Nobody is forcing you to. Anybody who complains next time because they don't get the idea of simple solutions is a nub.

This bothers me more than anythin. If his show went to a podcast I wouldn't mind it all that much, but this kinda crap is disgustin. The Escapist wanted us to all vote for them in that webby lifestyle award thin and then they went and put this crap show on. Seriously Escapist...this is the kind of face you want people to see on your site? This is the kind of show that you think makes people look at the gaming world in a different light? Ugh.

Wow, I gave it a second chance to see if it'd actually improve and honestly- it's worse this time. Alright to point out why is.. first of all, my major issue with this series is that it keeps showing some pretty nasty scenes with the dicks (why? seriously..) Second, he brings up repeating points but only rewords them or says it in a 'different' way but it all means the same.
Third, it didn't even solve anything.. he just pretty much making the games more focused on sexual qualities then making the game worth meaning. I really don't know why this guy was even hired on here for, he's not funny and I am done giving him chances. Not to sound rational, but I think we can do better then this Escapist.. no offense.

Skipping the rest of these episodes, the first one was bad, and this one is even worse.

Worst thing on the Escapist since Game Dogs's second season.

Why do some people behave like jerks?
Well I have the perfect solution... LET US ALL BEHAVE LIKE JERKS.
Because it is our nature it is in our genes to behave like jerks!
The world will become a better place if we are all jerks!
/sarcasm

So stupid... /rolleyes

Oh god....... my eyes... marcus in a thong....

Anyway, nice video.

My, my, my Jimbo. Knicked a month old joke from "The punchline is machismo" webcomic did you? Naughty, naughty!

http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/archives/777

Maybe it wasn't rip-off, since many people probably made the same connection, but it was still a lazy observation.

Oh, and nice introduction of the MS-paint things to cover up the fact that you couldn't 1-take it.

Gawd.... this guy fucking sucks.

crap show is crap. What is this even doing on the escapist? I figured it was worth a second chance, but frankly he's just coming off as a douche who's not funny and thinks that all the answers are simple. If all the answers were simple, then things would be better after 20-30 years of development and changing wouldn't they?

Respect the guy for having the massive balls to give an important first party title a really low score.

Hate everything else about him.

Seriously, I thougth after all the negative feedback and the fact that he was absent for a while that the Escapist kicked him out of the door. Sadly, it seems I was wrong.

It does solve something, it solves the inequality. When presented with any inequality there is usually more than one way to solve it.

I don't want to derail the thread, but what's with all the my little pony avatars?

Games are designed to make money (they may also make meaningful statements as a bonus but I don't think any game has ever been designed not to make a profit...). The horny heterosexual male has proven an especially profitable demographic. Shove in some sex appeal and they buy it in droves. While women certainly have the capacity to be as dumb as men, until they have demonstrated the willingness to be as stupid and easily led on mass there seems little need for games to pander to them as well. And last time I checked Playboy was still outselling Playgirl, My spam filter was still overflowing with male rather than female enhancement spam and female objectifying porn was still the most popular and profitable thing on the internet. If the goal is equality we do not need male NPCs in thongs we need more stupid horny women with cash...

sorry for the quote notification
I second this, is this really the sort of thing The Escapist wants to be seen advocating?

I'm going to tack my own question on the end as well. In those four minutes was anything said or shown that I wouldn't have gotten if I started a thread on somewhere like Gamespot or solicited an opinion from youtube comments? Before you point to the R34 duke I'll suggest that I probably would have had something similar posted in reply to me in those places...

It is not parody/satire if you blur the line so much that you become what you are parodying.

Take for example comedians who I've seen take a sideswipe at this issue (sexism in general not sexism in games); Jimmy Carr, Keith Lemon and Al Murray. These comedians also play characters and can come across as a bit controversial. They get away with it because you can tell from watching or listening to them, without them having to outright explain, that it is not their view and that they are just playing the fool. With Jim I'm not so sure.

Meh, I still don't like him. But I don't have to watch him so if others do like him no skin off my nose.

I might argue against his whole "Men are genetically wired to like to look at tits" bit as I believe that it is more of a cultural thing than genetic - although they do play their part I suppose. Only my opinion though, just like that is only his.

He still hasn't said anything (on the Escapist) that I, as a woman, take serious offence at really, so I'll watch next week and see then whether or not I'll watch him every week or whether I simply ignore him. I doubt he'll care either way; I'm not his demographic =)

/2 cents

They could also give all of the characters personalities, make the slutty women and men wear less clothing than the more "up-tight" and naive muscle-head women and men.

An example of this would be Mass Effect 2, Miranda had this space-Nazi vibe going on, with the uptight officer look and the idea of perfection worn in the form of revealing clothes.

On the other hand, Garrus was armour, tactical visor, he was ready to fight and maybe he had a few scares... he didn't care. He wore that attitude.

Mirranda and Garrus both wore their attitudes, like their appearance came from their personalities, not solely because Bioware wanted an ass-shot in every cutscene with Miranda (they did like to sneak a few in, though). So, that's how I think devs should do it right; work on personality, think about whatever that personality is would wear, do, say, etc, have their being grow organically from the idea of what "they" are.

I think that would solve the problem.

With all due respect, Escapist, as it is your site and all, but weren't we clear with the initial reaction this new series? Menial improvements does not make up for his complete lack of joke ability and abrasive, unappealing demeanor. His production values are still rock bottom, and he still fails to offer a concise, valid point in any meaningful way.

At the very least I hope at least a portion of the detractors have the courage of their convictions and follow through with their threat to abandon viewership of the site until Sterling's removal. It would at least provide the free market excuse for dumping the series apparently needed in this situation.

Please Escapist, at least do the most obvious math, not that much effort is required here.
