Miracle of Sound: Little Sister (BioShock)

So...you do everything 'cept the movie by yourself...I felt I needed to state that, because that fact alone made this song so much more awesome to listen to.

Mr. Sound...YOU are awesome

-V

I think it would've been more apt to make this about both Bioshock 1 AND 2, since you do play as a Big daddy in the latter (as opposed to just pretending to be one).

Video would've gained a lot from having Bioshock 2 footage. But the song itself is great.

Darth IB:
That was... amazing.
And now begins the two-week wait 'til I can have it on my ipod.

Same here, it's torture having to wait but it's worth it. :D

OT: Amazing song Miracle and nice job with the opening scene with the Escapist logo underwater Russ!

Man this song is going to be buried into my mind till I get it but atleast it's a great song.

Sonicron:
Do I detect a little Damon Albarn in there?

Really cool. That's one of the great things about your music - you're unpredictable. :)

Yea. That's one of the things I love about the weekly MoS video: he jumps around to different styles & it's always a surprise.
I was kind of expecting a Bioshock themed song to sound more industrial bluesy like a Tom Waits tune from the 80s: like something off Rain Dogs - that album reminds me a lot of Bioshock...especially "Cemetery Polka."
This surprised me with more of a prog sound: like Pink Floyd mixed with old school Genesis.
Entertaining as always.

Awesome song.

Hated that section of Bioshock though.

Developers, if you must put in an escort mission, don't have the NPC constantly go "HURRY! FOLLOW ME! COME ON! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? FOLLOW ME! HURRY!" Every damn minute.

Again, good song. That section just brought back sad memories though...

Also, I find it funny that when you had to dress up and be EXACTLY like a Big Daddy, your character doesn't put on the Big Daddy's gloves.

Wow... So haunting and deep, and it even got the watery effects perfect... You outdo yourself every single time. It's getting the point that it's really hard for me to pick my favorites, as every week there's just another fantastic song out. Well done, sir. Well done.

This now easily my favorite one, I love the chorus. This fits really well with the game, really haunting.

Sonicron:

Not intentionally at least, I was going more for a NIN kinda vibe. But I do like me some Blur!

timelordrick:
This was more epic than anything that has ever graced my ears.

Every time a new vid goes up there's at least one comment that makes my day... this is one of them :)

SomeBritishDude:
The choras gives me chills.

Your fantastic Miracle, don't go anywhere.

I'm here to stay!

Owlslayer:
Hells yes, that was awesome. Some parts of it really sounded... umm, watery? Wave-y? I don't know, but it did feel right.

That was indeed deliberate, I used a compressor called a Sidechain to get the sound:

What it does is links instruments to eachother... so when the kick drum hits in it sucks the volume down on the synths for a split second - that's what gave it the pumping, 'wavey' effect. :)

How do you get your songs recorded? Do you have your own mini recording studio or what? You did a really good job with the atmosphere. Also those clips reminded me why I hold Bioshock in such high esteem and they worked well with the music. My favorite song of yours is still "I suck at Call Of Duty" but this one was really good! Nice job! Also the title reminded me of The Queens of the Stone Age.

Captain Epic:

I record in my bedroom, on my computer. I have pretty limited equipment to be honest, Cubase, Ableton, a microphone, a bass and my guitar.

I've enjoyed quite a few Miracle of Sound songs, some more than others (and, so far, none where I've though "this sucks"), but I think this is the first Miracle of Sound song where I feel compelled to share the link to people who have never even HEARD of the game in question to say "even if you don't understand the lyrics, this song is worth listening to ANYWAY".

Wow. My band has done sessions at a true recording studio and you sound way more polished and professional than we do. That's bloody impressive.

Very good. Every single one of these video's is top notch.

Thank you :)

I am of the opinion that it's not about the gear you have, it's how well the engineer can use it. You can great sounds from very limited equipment Liam Howlett made an entire Prodigy album in his bedroom on his laptop!

Still can't beat Wasteland Soul, but it comes damn close ;)

I love the range you and your band has. Already you've written at least 5 songs that are as legendary as "Mayes sims 3 song"

Damn, I was gonna say that.. I was just thinking early NIN (Pretty Hate Machine era) - You should try to get Trent Reznor to cover this ;-)

Some of the harmonies are similar to Erasure (in a good way)

(yet another) Awesome track BTW (in case you didn't get that I liked it from the post)

This was awesome. Definitely one of my favorites! Keep up the good work.

I liked it, but I'll always associate this song with Bioshock:
Queens of the stone age - Little sister

Little sister can't you find another way,
No more livin life behind a shadow...

There be no band! 'Tis just me.

That's a fair point. I wasn't attempting to make some overheated commentary on the superiority of one game or the other. I just felt the visual storytelling and atmosphere of the first game were a better fit for this song.

So... what program do you use to make such a diverse range of instruments in your music? 0.o or do you actually know how to PLAY all of the instruments we've heard? (Also, my jaw just hit the floor)

I use Ableton to do the synths and atmospheric stuff, I use Cubase to program the drums and I play the guitars and keyboards and mix it all in Cubase.

Sweet L.A. was an exception, I got in jazz sax and piano players for that one.

I should really do a setup video someday, show you guys how I work.

You are an evil man.
I JUST traded in Bioshock!
Great song as always Miracle.
The two repeated versus are pretty haunting, but in a good way. It's cool to hear game themed music that isn't generic rap/rock, such as Mind of the Bat, Sweet L.A., or this. Also, one of the few times I like having two vocal lines at once. Think it works well here because I imagined it as sound waves reverberating in the water (if I used that wrong, sorry. I'm tired). The instrumental work here was also amazing.
I liked your rock music, just the change of pace is refreshing
Have you ever played Oblivion Miracle?
*not so subtle music request*

Yeah, okay. My mind has now officially been blown. I already thought you were great before I learned you do this all by yourself (most of the time) but now, now I have no words to describe how awestruck I am with your musical aptitude and prowess.

300 hours and counting. It's pretty certain I'll do an Oblivion song at some stage, thought all my ES hype is currently Skyrim-bound!

Awh :) Thanks! It's nice that people appreciate the amount of work that goes into making these.

When I get around to not disliking Bioshock *gets out flame shield*, I'll relisten to this. I don't know most of what is going on, but still, eerily beautiful.

Also, WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THIS?! I BEG FOR A DOWNLOAD!!!!

Here to add to the chorus of praise. This is your best song to date and given your track record lately, that is saying something.

Keep up the awesome work!

Enough with the awesome man! It's like you're a well of musical talent and there's no stopping you. Heck, if your next video was just you using a kazoo and banging on a trashcan lid you'd still find a way to make it mind blowing. It's...beautiful. *lighter salute*

I liked this song. The subject matter contradicted the tempo, which was cool. I just wish you'd stop having this "multiple" singer approach to every refrain. It's seems every song you've done so far has at least a decent sized portion of it containing your voice and someone else's (or your voice twice). It's a cool sound, but it makes the songs all sound sort of similar. Frankly, I wish you'd do more thinks like Sweet LA, where you really put some soul into your voice. A complex, rich vocal melody with emotion, showing your true talent as a singer, not just a song writer.

By the way, the title couldn't help but make me think about this song:

Not even close to being about the same thing XP

Miracle of Sound,

Is there anything you have set up for me to purchase you music, via Amazon or iTunes or something? I would like to know how to support this constant flow of great tunes financially.

Don't stop, you have become my favorite feature on the Escapist.

Was anyone else expecting something like Billy Idol's White Wedding?

I myself am wondering this as well, I'd love to have some of the songs here such as the Commander Shepard and now this song, and I wouldn't mind paying for the songs either. They're really well done, and adds a soothing air to a gamer when he can listen to a song that's about games he loves and still is a good song in itself (e.g. C&C Hell's March, Alan Wake's Poet and the Muse).

Please, let us find these treasure troves to download these songs!
