I don't know really. I think it maybe the fact that people hold him in high acclaim, even when he let's his ego get the better of him. For example the brovengers thread had no discussion value whatsoever, but people were fine with it because it was a daystar thread. I just don't like celebrities and favouritism in any site, so of course daystar gets on my nerves but he is one funny lad, so I don't hate him that much.

His ego? Are we talking about the same Daystar Clarion here? Daystar's repeatedly said he doesn't want people holding him in such high regard and he doesn't like the idea of forum celebrities. He's one of the most modest people on this site. You're just hating him for being popular, it's not his fault people like him.

As for the Brovengers thread it did have discussion value as a forum game which is why it was moved there. If this favouritism you keep claiming exists actually does exist the mods wouldn't have moved it.

Yep, I have to agree. Daystar is in no way egotistical, and thinking otherwise is ridiculous. He's popular because he's an awesome guy, he's witty and he makes people laugh. End of story.

Also, Hazy, I'm the most modest person on this site. That is why I am The Modest Brovenger. I'm so modest it hurts.

This post is not in any way on topic.

This thread exists for feedback about the changes to the forum's design. Please allow people to use it for that.

A benefit of Publisher's club has always been an early look at changes. They were given the same ability to toggle the forum layout as you, just a week earlier as they've been promised. While these changes didn't come with a heads up, they did come with the a toggle that's easily accessible.

And the rest of the points that I made?

Also, and I know you probably didn't mean it offensively, but I find people using the word 'derp' in relation to my posts very dismissive. The connotatiosn of the word always makes it read to me as though everything I have just written has been dismissed as stupid/retarded. Not looking to offend, I just have a strong reaction to that word.

The rest of the points you've made will be taking into consideration with the design team. This design was never set in stone, and we're only looking to make a pleasant forum experience for you guys. We're actively reviewing your criticisms/suggestions and are making some changes based on them.

And my apologies for the derp in your quote, it wasn't my intent to offend you.

Sorry about that. But I hope I'm not the only person getting warned about it, there are a lot of posts in this thread that aren't on topic and it was derailed long before I got here :/

Why is it that every "upgrade" makes the escapist harder and harder to see?
This is giving me an eyestrain, it's so white and bland.

Try using the custom content background option in the browsing options (also the gear on the navbar). :)

Change is scary.

I'm okay with it. Was a bit of a surprise the first time I saw it but I got used to it pretty quickly.
One thing I would like though is to be given the option to turn the nameplates blue.
But that's just personal preference.

Well that's why we have an appeals system. It gives people an opportunity to explain themselves.

I'm telling you, making it about post count only encourages people to write random things down such as "adding content to avoid moderation", which will actually encourage spam rather than discourage it.

They do that anyway, I've seen that done quite a lot. The low content rule itself encourages it, not how it's moderated.

They do it until we notice and then we warn them and they stop.

ToastiestZombie:
Also, can I appeal my suspension.

This is not a moderation appeals thread, Toasty. This is a forum update feedback thread. If you want to further discuss this issue then do so either in the Moderation Team User Group or with me via PM. As I said as recently as my last post... we have an appeals system. Use it.

Will do. Ialso, can suspended people stoll use the report nutton? It justnseems silly them not being able to

It doesn't seem to do anything...
I'll just get used to squinting.

Hazy992:
I'd also suggest moving the report button back under people's avatars so people don't accidentally report someone when trying to quote them.

Yeah, seriously. I already reported roughly 3000 posts by accident on the old layout, God knows how many it will be on this if nothing changes.

No, users who are suspended are not allowed to report. When users make a mistake big enough to get mod wrath, their judgement in reporting likely going to be poor at that time. Not to mention, user who just suffered mod wrath are more likely to spam the button to try and get back at mods.

the thing I don't get is t
That the reason you won't let people on suspension is because of spam. Whn you put the report button next to the quote button, which from my short experience causes lots and lots of reports that weren't supposed to be done. Which spans mods. I would change where that is located, then you can complain about spam. Just a point, an was just asking why they couldn't, it's easy to just ask someone else to do it

Think something's gone wrong there as you haven't put anything. I'd edit that if I were you.

Back on topic I'm also gonna echo what others have said and suggest the staff member names are a different colour. Blue perhaps. Gold on grey looks kinda weird

Terratina.:
Whatever people think, I just think that there should be should colour added to the boring grey palette.

*Fiddles about with Paint*

Uu, I like that! Though I have nothing against the overall grey, as I find it easier on the eyes. But your version does look "cleaner".

While we're dreaming, how about avatars to the left and some general rearranging on the poster info?

Jack Rascal:

Nice.

*Fiddles about with Paint some more*

Sorry, I don't know what colours the other button should be :(

Terratina.:

Hey, thanks for taking the time in doing this, I'll make sure the rest of the design team sees it.

ThyNameIsMud:
-Snip-

You're welcome and thank you for showing it the rest of the design team. It's no problem at all, taking a screenshot, pasting it into Paint and uploading it using imgur doesn't really take up time. I just want this site to make my eye smile (if that makes any sense.) and I regard myself with having a decent amount of aesthetic sense, so there I went.[/quote]

Nasrin:

I'd like to address your complaints about the way the forum has changed, but they seem mostly to be a matter of taste.

Too be fair, forum technology hasn't really changed much in the last 10 to 15ish years. Most changes are directly in relation to taste.

You mention that we can keep the old look "for a time." Is there no way of letting people make their choice permanently? I know many forums that let you choose among many varying lay outs.

I still wish I could go back to the old front page lay out myself, and wish we could change that under our settings as well.

It's very taxing for us to host what amounts to multiple websites at the same time. Especially with regard to the front page, which is curated by the Editorial Staff. We also create custom artwork for most of our content, so that's double work for artists as well.

We're continuing to consider and look into options for the future, though, so I'll of course keep this request in mind.

I've actually gotten used to this rather quickly, I can deal with it, if not completely like it.

Setting my background to space is neat, but ultimately, doesn't really change how bland everything looks because when reading, I tunnel vision on the center and see nothing more.

Terratina.:
Snip

Something like this though, I can start to get behind. Maybe change the buttons to be blue as well to make them stand out against the unclickable grey bar.

Maybe something like this, with a little red to try catch a little attention and deter accidental reportings.

I like the quick PM envelope on Terratina's too.

Draconalis:

You say that when reading you 'tunnel vision on the center' of the page. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but I fail to see this as a problem. These are discussion forums, the emphasis is supposed to be on the text, isn't it?

Nasrin:

The emphasis my be on the text, and I don't disagree with you there, but if the entirely of the forum looks bland and dull it might affect my desire to read said text.

The text is clearly important, and I don't disagree with you there at all... but a little color doesn't hurt.

Oh gods! The grey dullness is making my posts dull now!

Kidding.

But seriously... what the hell happened there? It's like I had two thoughts that both had that statement... and they just kinda crashed into each other and I didn't bother to take note of it.

I wanna punch myself now.

As for the:

-'Are you sure you want to flag this post for moderation?'-

Nice addition, and quick fix to boot!

*tips hat

Did the buttons always highlight blue for quote and post and red for flag and I didn't notice? Or was that just ninja implemented?

Draconalis:

No, that was there before. I thought you knew and just wanted them... more highlighted? hehe

Nasrin:

... Yeah... I knew about it already... I just... uh... want too be more clear about it...

Totally knew all about it...

Otherwise, the only difference is color and your ability to have larger avatars and more badges. We made these changes because we considered them to be an improvement, of course.

Does this mean my screen is going to stop spazzing out when someone posts a picture, jumbo-sizing the post box and removing the reply/quote options? Hurrah!

We didn't remove the reply/quote options. They're on the bar attached to your name and avatar. We did try to make their functions more clear, however.

No, no - I mean that under the old design, when someone posted a picture into a thread under a spoiler-tag and I opened it, it would resize the posts on my screen and push the quote/reply options off to the right where I couldn't access them. Same thing with the page numbers, meaning I had to refresh a thread to see the second page or respond to someone.

I was just hoping that this was a known issue and that it might have been fixed in the update, but apparently not. Sad times.

I'm fairly new to these forums and personally I find the design quite nice. Maybe the only thing I would change is the grey bar at the top of each post to the escapist light-blue.

The change is overall a good thing, the text seems a bit easier to read. The only issue I would have with it is that it seems almost too sterile, I guess thats the word I'm looking for. I'm not saying it should be all bright & shiny & eye bleeding colorful, but a little more color wouldn't hurt. I do like the layout though.

Nope. We're not going to do signatures. It's simply not going to happen, no matter what other changes are made.

I personally detest forum signatures myself but why do you guys dislike them?

People tend to go nuts with them, putting in animated gifs, etc. and they make forums look hideous (and less readable).

We figure we provide plenty of opportunities for self-expression without signatures. Many people would love it if we added them, and I respect that, but it's just plain not something we're going to do.

I completely understand your disdain of "overwhelming" signatures, and support your decision of not allowing them solely on that basis. But perhaps if there were some way to allow a pre-determined amount of text, disable the ability to integrate image files, and/or add a setting to enable or disable seeing signatures in the forums...

...But that would be quite a bit of work, and you would probably still get several complaints about signature restrictions, not to mention the potential of explicit and otherwise offensive content...

It honestly doesn't matter to me whether or not signatures are enabled, despite having one ready just in case, but these might be some ideas to kick around next time you guys decide to shake things up again.
