No Right Answer: Best Archer Ever

Legolas may be badass, but Kadniss has a better asset available to her

.....sorry, I'll leave now

I vote for Gilgamesh from Fate Stay Night, technically he counts.

Although he's annoying and a little on the hax side...

Bard the bowman, guys.

Deus ex machina? perhaps. Badass? The Ultimate.

That this debate did not include the Green Arrow (or Speedy/Arsenal/etc.), Hawkeye(Taskmaster, etc.) AND ALSO DID NOT INCLUDE 1)Hercules who used his incredible strength to straight arm long bows and hit targets over the horizon 2)Susan, the High Queen of Narnia who could shoot things invisible to the naked eye and my personal pick 3)Arjuna Pandava, who was utterly bullshit in every archery way.

Let me tell you about Arjuna Pandava, fool. He was known by ten names (like "Arjuna the Invincible" and "Arjuna the Unbelievable"), having accomplished ten badass feats of archery. I'm not talking piddly little stuff like lodging seven arrows in the throat of a rabid dog without piercing the animal. I'm talking about feeding the god of fire Agni the god of thunder Indra's holy forest and then shooting every drop of rain sent to put out the fire back into the sky until it made a water tight canopy of arrows. You know the type of rain the thunder god of India can bring, they don't have a 'wet season', they got TYPHOONS muthafugga. The god of existence Vishnu (you heard me) was born of mortal flesh to drive his chariot (you heard me). The Bhagavad Gita, one of the holy books of Hinduism like the Torah/New Testament/Quran of the Abrahamic traditions, is just the explanation of how it was still moral for this dude to actually keep on archery-ing like he did. He broke unbreakable, heavenly bow strings like he broke unbreakable, mythological tactical battle formations.

In short, this episode was deplorable by the show's own standards.

Best archer ever: Gilgamesh.

Chris ninja'd me before the video was over. GET OUTTA MY HEAD!!!

Well, besides Sterling Archer, my personal favorite archer is probably Robin Hood. Good archer and I dig his philosophies on redistribution of wealth.

What is Katniss even doing here....

She's not a good archer and she's not defined by her archery.

How do you even compare Legolas to this... this... Katniss whatever the hell person?!

Seriously.

Hello, there are just so many things that are obviously an indication of superiority for Legolas without even giving it that much thought that I don't even understand this video. Usually I'm not "that person" who complains about the people/things for comparison but this one brings out my inner WTF.

Not to say that Legolas is beyond comparison, but I feel the match was VERY uneven in this episode.

Edit - Now, if you were comparing popularity (rather than best archer) then that might be something. You didn't though, and so its not.

Really should have been Hawkeye vs Legolas... Katniss is in a movie that bends over backwards to make her seem like a badass, but her feats really can't hold a candle to the other two.

Katniss's role as a symbol for the downtrodden to rally behind really means bupkiss as far as her being an effective archer go so... yeah, her being the best of a rather bland or offscreen-killed lot doesn't really mean a whole lot.

Throw out some anime/manga choices.
Kagome/Kikyo from Inuyasha.
Uryuu Ishida or Ryuken his father from bleach.

Katniss...Wha... Should have been Hawkeye-vs-Legolas, then it could have been an actual discusion, just saw the hobbit part 2 and I'm pretty sure Legolas would win, not just because his badassness magically put him in the movie but what he does in said movie makes the stuff in LotR look tame.

Katniss is pretty badass. But she is also more realistic thats why she can't win against Legolas, elves in fantasy have a natural talent with bows. Period.

Katniss Everdeen........ KATNISS FUCKING EVERDEEN.....

Kyle wins. Like at everything ever from now on.

I saw the title of the video before the image loaded and got really excited that this was going to be a discussion of which Archer episode is the best.

I was sadly disappointed.

Seriously, Jennifer Lawrence vs Orlando Bloom? How much money did Lions Gate pay you?

Cracked got popular by informing people about real things and then having fun with it. You could have gone in so many better directions with best "archer".

Besides, the best Archer is Sterling.

Kai from Heavenly Sword.
No Contest!

Robin Hood was such a good archer, he split an arrow in two, nock to tip, at the very center of a bulls-eye. His famous feat isn't physically possible. Forget nailing fleas off a dog's back, that's like shooting through a skull, nailing a flea off a dog's back to another flea on a different dog, then pinning them both inside a rock... without harming either dog. And he did it with a longbow, a weapon designed to be fired at armies, not individuals (most competitive archers, including Katniss, use a compound bow). On top of that, Robin Locksley (known as Robin Hood), was a career soldier. He was both a master swordsman, and highly skilled with a quarterstaff. He often challenged random passers-by to duels, and always won, even against physically superior opponents (such as John Little, known as "Little John", who eventually became his best friend).

Robin Hood is also famously good at espionage, specifically infiltration and disguise. Basically, Robin Hood was the James Bond of the medieval age.

EDIT: Actually, no... this is clearly the best Archer. HAHA! I SO CLEVAH!

Dr.Awkward:
C'mon Chris, you picked Katniss? You could have stood a better chance with John Rambo or Robin Hood!

Yeah, the fact that Robin Hood isn't here is... special. There's also Green Arrow, Hawkeye, Link, Aremis, and so many others that I think would beat Katniss handily in the "best archer ever" category.

Katniss has got to be just a topical thing. Recent fame that clouds judgement of the bigger picture. But perhaps I'm biased as her character actively annoyed me in the books as a brooding drama queen who was completely ineffective in most of the series as anything more than an icon.

I also don't remember Katniss being particularly effective outside of archery. Unless hiding in a tree is effective. Fortunately, this was mentioned early on but should have all but ruled her out as an archer.

Yeah, I hear you. I couldn't care less which fictional character was better at shooting an ancient weapon.

I think my personal favorite was "Skytanic", or pretty much any episode that features Kreiger.

Don't worry, we have an Archer episode coming up too

Careful Katniss you're walking into the DANGER ZONE!!!

PunkRex:
Verily, such disregard for a superior archer!
*snip*

THIS!

Changed my mind. THIS!

"Real secret agents don't tell every harlot from here to Hanoi that they are secret agents!"

... "Then why be one?".

But seriously... Robin Hood.

Who, btw, was a YORKSHIREMAN! Not from fucking Nottingham, as those cunts so often claim.

Clearly the best archer is

I'd second votes for Bard and Robin Hood. Mainly I'd just love to see a movie archer who actually fights from the back, instead of rushing into melee to fire arrows at point blank. I'm looking at you, Legolas. You too, Susan Pevensie.

stueymon:
What about old Green Arrow, Hawkeye or even Daryl Dixon? Ok I know the last one uses a crossbow, but he's badass!

Exactly who I was about to mention.
In the show, I think he is better than Batman. Batman doesn't answer to anybody, he has a whole group of non super-powered friends and family who he has to hide his identity from and still fight others more powerful than him.

Still, Nostelgia Critic's Superman is Batman song applies to him too.

I'd give my vote to Justice League Unlimited Green Arrow. Come on the guy can shot more than just arrows like when he has to shoot control rods at a giant nuclear powered robot that the super powered members of the team couldn't stop. Plus boxing glove arrows, got to take some talent to shoot one of those and knock out thugs.

If they need a female archer for the mix then I'd say Merida from Brave over the Hunger Games.

I am really really confused, why was Katniss a choice?

She had one good shot and that was in the third book.

Sterling is the best Archer

First episode I ever saw was the rampage one. Instantly sold me on the series.

"What is WRONG with you?!"
"Uh, it's called CANCER?!"

Best archer ever: Gilgamesh.

Considering he doesn't use a bow, I'd say the other badass archer from the Fate series, Archer:
image

This guy is so badass the word "Gar" had to be invented to descibe him. He can pinpoit shoot moving targets from 2 kilometers away, something people with modern state-of-the-art rifles, bullets and scopes can only do at a still target.
Plus, he breaks Lavoisier's law of Equivalent Exchange by creating magic swords out of thin air, and being able to explode them at will, or use their magic powers, making him able to use a limitless amount of special weapons when most other Servants can only use one.

I get the feeling that Hunger Games is a western version of Battle Royale, but I haven't seen either of them or read the books. It doesn't sound like the archery is just something she's good at and happens to be something that looks cool on a poster.

If anyone could enlighten me about it, in their own words, I'd appreciate it. I don't know if the comparison of the two movies I mentioned is in anyway fair.

Lord Hosk:

Because she's in a couple currently very popular movies and many of the promotional shots show her holding a bow. This ignores the fact that in the movies (I haven't read the books) she's somewhat realistically portrayed as, at best, semi-competent. I would estimate about 60% of her shots fly wide of the mark and she only occasionally hits her target. Although she seems to have some bizarre luck superpower which means if doesn't miss (which is more often than not) she hits her target dead center. She never has a near miss or merely grazes her target.

To be fair, heroic spirit Emiya only used a bow in one instance. Characters even commented on how it was strange that he was an archer class since he didn't use a bow. If the archer of Fate/Zero and Stay night went head to held, Gilgamesh would win; not only due to skill, but also shear number of weapons that can be used at once.

Best Archer IS Sterling Archer. Pfft, not even a debate.

ZZoMBiE13:
Best thing about the Hunger Games is listening to MovieBob make up funny names to replace "Katniss" in his review videos.

And yet he missed Catnap, which is the best description possible. She has no real personality in the book or movie save what is more or less impressed on her by others. Which is why Kyle's sort of bang on with that bit about her being impressive only because of what others have done.

Then again, one boring character versus the snorefest that is Tolkien, hard to complain too much.

In the books, she 'always' puts arrows through her game's eyes.
