Do NOT fuck with corporations. Corporations fuck with you!

...
I see now why people are afraid of Valve...yeah.

Whre does this guy live? That's illegal here in the UK as a term "causes significant imbalance in the parties rights and obligations" if he's british he should inform the OFT.

This happened with BC2 accounts all over the place. People think EA are these awesome, wonderful publishers that rise above the standard lately.... how wonderful ignorance must be.

Who the hell thinks that? I have an Extra Credits episode, some commercials, and a whole backlog of shady deals and shitty games to show them!

I doubt there are people who think EA is awesome :p

Honestly though, I don't think anybody at Bioware is responsible.
And wouldn't getting a ban on steam result in you losing all your steam games?

oh i've seen it with several people on this very website, when talking about EA related things that seem to be good. they seem to think EA is the best publisher out there at the moment, when not realizing that all publishers function the same way.

SODAssault:
How butthurt do you have to be to say "he made fun of us, how about some financial retribution?"

Your post regarding EA's reaction to the guy's forum remark reminded me of Bill Hicks' assessment of the Christian religion.

"Believe or die!"
"Thank you forgiving Lord, for all those options."

In all seriousness, the mod who banned him probably found out they were cheated on the night before. So....pretty damn butthurt, if you ask me.

Penguinplayer:
Wow. The guy paid 60 (hopefully) hard-earned bucks to get a brand new copy of the game and he can't even play it because he wanted to dicuss a topic in a forum and show his opinion on a subject. True, he might have gone too far, and was even willing to recieve the punishment, but this is another discussion for another time.

Also, funnily enough, this does means that his point (BioWare sold it'a soul to EA.) is kinda of valid.

he carnt play it for 72 hours i hardly think its quite as big of a deal as some people are making it out to be

Since he hasn't been able to activate the game he hasn't agreed to anything concerning DA2. This means that they shouldn't be able to mess with his new copy of the game, however his back log of games is open since, having activated them, he has agreed to their rules. They need to refund his money for the copy of DA2, but I think everything else is open to EA's decisions.

Christ on a stick. Well, that's that. I'm never buying anything from these guys again. It's a good thing Bioware has been getting stale recently.

Ouch now I fully understand what happened to the poster. I read the post made on his alt. account but I still didn't quite get what he meant till now. But ouch that must be painful having 60$ down the drain.

SO the moral of this story is
GAME DEVS ARE PEOPLE TOO AND WILL GET PISSED OFF AND BRING THE PAIN IF YOU START INSULTING THEM, THEIR CO-WORKERS, GAMES or COMPANY-THEY-WORK-FOR. EVEN GOD-I MEAN GAME DEVELOPERS HAVE THEIR LIMITS. End Moral.

wow, that's incredibly f'ing bogus. Pretty draconian measures for a minor offense.
I guess he was right, looks like Bioware has sold their souls.

I do agree that a ban stretching over to your games that you've bought from breaking the rules in a forum does seem quite extreme. But it is nice to see some trolls getting some quantifiable punishment for their wrongdoings once in a while.

Just banned for having an opinion? Lol no. The banned always seem to think it wasn't as bad as the place they broke the rules at. He was probably trolling quite a lot or flaming other users along with that "constructive opinion".

Well, I guess I know one online store that I'm not buying from. Honestly, bullshit like this is why I don't play more games on my PC.

Suspend this:

Fuck EA.

I'm sick and tired of their codswallop. They've been responsible for more than a couple lackluster games over the years (I don't refer to either Dragon Age, I enjoyed those thoroughly) and they treat their customers like shit. It's shenanigans if you ask me.

Can he install it at the end of 72 hours?

If so... gotta wait, man.

JourneyThroughHell:
As much as they've probably had the rights to do it, it's still a really fucking shady thing to do to your customers, BioWare.

This is terrible. He paid his money. Your rules are bullshit.

Trust me, it isn't nearly as shady as misleading customers with the Signature Edition, multiple copies were shipped with nothing but the manual included, with EA and Bioware knowing about it well in advance.

Ummm, isn't it simply having $60 trapped in suspended animation for 72 hours?

Once again DRM sticks it to the paying customers. Wonder how many pirated copies they've stopped so far with their online activation. Here's a hint, not very damn many. This was pretty much either a zero day release or pretty damn close to it. Bravo Bioware, I hope the extra office space and additional funding was worth reducing yourself to nothing more than EAs bitch.

72 hours is a slap on the wrist.

I agree, however, it's pretty outrageous to disable his ability to play the game.

If one didn't buy it from the EA store, but from Steam or even retail . . could the same scenario occur? You still have to authorize the game online, don't you? (I don't know, as I'm not touching DA2 until it's ridiculously cheap, like 1-2 years from now. If I buy it at all).

Andy Chalk:
**snip**

This is why I buy my games on disks. And why I don't game on PC, but that's another topic entirely.

Although, for the record, it's actually kinda nice to see a forum troll getting bitch-slapped in a serious way. Maybe people will actually start being - gasp - polite to one another on forums? One can only hope.

That whole "oh, he paid for it, that's not right" thing - it doesn't matter at all. He handed a company some money. So what? Companies rip people off all the time. He also broke a company policy that he agreed to. They have every right to take his stuff away as a penalty.

This doesn't surprise me or offend me. I will continue to buy from EA because they make a quality product, because I enjoy their products, and because I am smart enough to behave myself (or not frequent) company forums where I might piss them off.

Edit: Ah yes! I almost forgot - he's only suspended for 72 hours. So he hasn't been denied his game, just instant access to it. That's barely a "time out".

Hungry Donner:
Sheesh, suspend or ban someone from a forum if they're misbehaving but don't remove their games.

he's suspended from the EA servers nobody stole his game

ultimateownage:
Just wanted to point out a little error in the post.

Thanks for the heads-up. Fixed!

It does seem like they didn't mean to stop him installing a game. It's only because he was banned in between purchasing the game and installing it that it turned out that way. It's still not cool and needs to be changed so this can't happen.

Man, Bioware are not popular right now. I need to go change my March Mayhem predictions. I have them winning it, lol. I assumed Dragon Age 2 would be good.

Wow, this combined with the news that they snuck in SecuRom on the disk and the below average metacritic score makes me glad I decided to save my money for shogun 2

I'm not sure. He said he bought it off the EA store and everything but was he actually able to download the game if his account was suspended and was he able to keep his game's code?

Mental note: activate your game before you troll.

Oh wait, I use a console, and I don't use EA/Bioware forums.

Oh well, sucks for you dude, 60 hours left or so.

EDIT: Aww boy, the guy below me is gunna get hell. He's right of course, but he's still gunna get hell.

The EA and Bioware forums aren't public etc, therefore if you join them, you agree to abide by their rules and accept their punishments. If he did something against the rules, he should be punished acordingly.

It's like these forums, and as with any forum, if you don't like it, you leave.

PopcornAvenger:

Apparently, in this case, he's screwed because he bought it from the EA Store, so EA community rules apply.

And yes, it's only 72 hours, but that's not the point. The point is that EA took his money but they're not giving him his game in return because of something he did that's entirely unrelated to the transaction. It's outrageous.

I loathe piracy, I really do, but some days...

1. You're stupid enough to buy from EA store.

It's like throwing money out of a window.

KarmicToast:
Whoa, note to self: do not buy from EA Store. That's outrageous.

This was a retail purchase.

It needs an online registration to activate.

EDIT: This article says it was from the EA store, my bad. The prior bit I read called it a retail purchase. You know, a boxed copy from a brick and mortar store.

KarmicToast:
Whoa, note to self: do not buy from EA Store. That's outrageous.

if you want o log on to the game and get some of the "free buy-new bonus" it won't matter where you bought it, it all goes back to EA.BIOWARE

What this tells me is DON'T EVER POST ON OFFICIAL PUBLISHER/DEVELOPER FORUMS! yeh just use it as a FAQ sheet ppl. Thats all i do. I do all the other Rantings here! where i get a message every time some1 quotes me! Yall are awesome Escapist :3

He ought to be looking on the bright side: at least he got an answer to the question that got him banned.

From the looks of things, yes. Yes, they have sold their souls to the EA devil.

Remove was an inappropriate term, but even temporarily blocking access to the game seems like an inappropriate step to take. If someone is misbehaving on the forums I fully support taking actions against their account but to extend it this far seems extreme.

"Consider it an added incentive to follow the rules you say you're going to follow."

So what they are saying is that if you don't act nice on their forums, they will take away your ability to play a single player(!) game that you've paid for?

Why is this news? "Random dude can't play DA2! Everyone get up in arms over it!"

I promise I'll care if it turns into an epidemic, but one random guy's forum woes are hardly worth reporting on, especially when there was already a thread on this.
