Microsoft Doesn't Want Sony's Sloppy Seconds

Wow, the "PS3 has no Gaems" meme is becoming more and more ironically inappropriate every year.

Now Microsoft have made it official: PS3 exclusives will ALWAYS be PS3 exclusives!

GonzoGamer:

You're right and that makes them even bigger morons.
The ps3 is actually a really well made piece of hardware and it's unfortunate that it's been sandbagged so badly that they may as well have made it cheaper. It would be a great console if they would just give it half decent support. As it stands, I feel like I have a really nice sports car that wont pop out of first. I tried to be optimistic about it, I really did, but now the only good thing I can think about it is "hey, at least it didn't burst into flames."
Of course the alternative was the 360 which is of course crappy hardware (so bad that for a long while, half of them were spontaneously combusting) that actually gets good support.

This is why I'm not even going to bother getting a console when the next gen rolls around, I'll sink that money into my desktop and at this point probably get more bang for my buck... and the PC really does do everything.

You seem to have a pretty outdated view of the PS3. I don't know how you could say it's not getting any support, when Sony's studios are putting out a lot of great games and have been for at least two years now. PSN may not be as good as Live but overall the PS3 is a pretty solid console to have now, and it's just dropped its price even further. In what way would you like more support than it's getting?

Right, because Microsoft has so many exclusives for me to choose from, oh wait.

How childish of you MS, see, this is the kind of shit that just irritates me about them.

For a console maker that relies /heavily/ on third-party support, this is a poor policy.

I really think Microsoft needs to rethink it's stand as a game publisher/developer if they're going to continue this into the next console generation cycle.

I know everyone says this is poor and childish but really I can agree to them doing this. More or less they are pressuring developers to not make cheap knock-offs and sloppy copies to earn extra money. Its unlike Sony where games such as, for instance oblivion, have crappy updates and bad controls simply because it was releaseed on said console for cheap profit.

That is a little childish of them, just because a game come on another platform first doesn't mean it's any worse than any other. And this was people who only have XBoxes lose out on a lot of great games. I think Microsoft should really rethink this policy.

i actually agree with this is an odd way, kinda makes sense. "Equal treatment or have your potential profit reduced significantly."

really it sounds like microsoft is just saying they dont want to be shat on in the game market.

northeast rower:
Even though this is kind of bad for the gamers, I still appreciate MS showing a little backbone.

Sorry, what? I just don't get this statement. "Yeah, its a dumb thing to do, but at least they're sticking with it".

Woodsey:
Right, because they're balls-deep in their own first-party studios, and XBLA is renowned for being indie developer-friendly in the first place.

Fucking morons.

You know, a lot of your comments amuse me in a good way XD

Since this is the internet, I'm genuinely not being sarcastic here, that was very well said

OT:Well MS, how nice of you to essentially say that you'll make zero effort to make PS3 exclusives make their way to your consoles so that more gamers can get to enjoy them. Well done.

Yes, next time there's a PS3 exclusive I want to play, I'm sure thinking about your policy will make me feel loads better. By the way, as a consumer what I want is to play good games. I don't care if they came out on other consoles first, or if they had one more little thing. And in case Microsoft hasn't noticed, this means that the PS3 and Wii will get the upper hand when it comes to exclusives.

Studs MacKenzie:

Yes, but its not a choice between a bad copy of Oblivion and a good copy. Its a choice between a bad copy, and no copy at all.

Grey Carter:

Microsoft's Content Submission and Release Policy states:

"Titles for Xbox 360 must ship at least simultaneously with other video game platform, and must have at least feature and content parity on-disc with the other video game platform versions in all regions where the title is available. If these conditions are not met, Microsoft reserves the right to not allow the content to be released on Xbox 360."

I know in spirit this is probably meant to make sure that Xbox owners don't get the quality shaft compared to the other consoles, but it comes off as really petty and a childish "Me first!" mentality.

As he said at the end of the article:

Grey Carter:

They may think this is competitive, but it's not. They are killing any creative exposure of titles to make up for their own platform's shortcomings."

I can think of a number of titles that started out, or still remain, as Xbox exclusives and prompted a strong "WTF?" from me. Most of these being JRPGs, for a console who's general player base thinks anything Japanese getting near their Halo will give it the gay. Worst part? Some of those games never got ported to the PS3, likely because the 360 sales were far below expectations and didn't justify the expense of porting them, or, judging by the tone of Microsoft, they were probably bullied into exclusivity agreements.

Oh well, there's only a small handful of 360 exclusive games I've ever had interest in, never enough to prompt me to buy the machine. My launch PS3 never died on me, I can play 3 generations of games on it with almost no problems, and the number of PS2/3 exclusives that I've wanted is a much higher number. Maybe now that the price has dropped, and the odds of it suddenly bursting into flame are a little less than 100%, I'll pick one up on the cheap and try to find some of the games I've had to miss.

If only Sony didn't have network security the equivalent of a wet paper back *sigh* Well, can't have everything I guess.

So in other words, Microsoft wants me to buy a PS3? Well, alright then. I'll just give money to your competitor instead of you.

Seems very, very childish to me. I hate Microsoft.

GonzoGamer:

Ohh there's a bad gamble. With the way DRM and other services *cough* http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.308968-Internet-Explodes-Over-Origins-Invasion-of-Privacy *cough* are going these days, people, players and developers alike, are dropping the PC like a sack of hot rocks. The few that don't generally just give you a half-hearted port that's swimming in DRM.

I love my PC, don't get me wrong, but outside of MMOs, using it as a surrogate SNES, and the occasional indie game off Steam, I hardly ever use it to game on.

Scorched earth seems a stupid move in an age of convergence. Just sayin'.

TimeLord:
So that means Ratchet and Clank will never come to 360?

Fine with me Microsoft. I'll keep my PS3 nice and safe just so I can play the best 3rd person, funny, over the top, super fun, platformers ever made.

i completly agree with you on this finally someone who shares the same opinion on ratchet and clank

A game on any platform should have the same content as the rest. I'm looking at you PS3 version of Arkham Asylum.

I think that exclusives should stay on their systems, and that third party games need to be for everyone.

sephiroth1991:
...Nintendo are Customer's Bitches...

What are you talking about. Nintendo makes about five different games, and releases it about every 3-4 years which nothing more than a slight graphical update, and people still buy it. The world is Nintendo's bitch.

I hope the zombies finally wake up after this little nugget of info, let Micro$uck games department die, stop buying their garbage consoles, let them pass into Oblivion.

Isn't this the exact crap that gets dishes out to PS3 owners?
We have to wait months to get content when XBOX gets it first.

Kind of a douchey move ther Microsoft, way to screw over your customers as well as game designers.
Plus the whole petty childness competition you got going there.

this is a great shame, im suprised microsoft havent thought this through better... if a game released later on xbox still does well then surely it would just mean the developer is more likely to release the sequel on both after seeing sales.

This shouldn't bother 360 fans too much. The 360 is built almost entirely to be the best shooter console out there. You think any 360 fans are clamoring to play Killzone 2 or Resistance? They don't want those loser games like Infamous, God of War, or Uncharted. They want manly killing simulators like Gears or Halo.

/satire

How can MS get any games from Sony when the PS3 has no games?

In all seriousness though I find this simply stupid, I HATE how games being made have more content for some consoles than others (IE PS3s ME2... in fact it mostly happens with PS3 *cough*LA Noire *cough*) and I cannot stand this war for the better system (system side all PS3 has over Xbox is the blue ray. Xbox has the better motion activity, kinect. Can we stop this now?) imo xbox is more fun simply due to exclusives and the controller, but that doesn't mean I don't play the PS3 when I have the option to. They need to cool it with this thing and release games for xbox and stop trying to out due Sony when they both are equally beating Nintendo and its 49 out of 50 games being gimmicky and casual.

That seems rather cheeky of Microsoft. It's like they're saying, "It doesn't matter that we deny our customers great games for petty and childish reasons, because our console is obviously the best thing in the universe, no matter how many games we refuse to put on it."

TimeLord:

Yes that may seem like fanboyism but if you two won't play nice I'll just have to separate my consoles into opposite rooms! I think next firmware update for the Xbox will eject dirt out of the disc drive at the player if they mention Playstation games in the same room.

I think that is the sole reason I have never touched an Xbox. Now I'm going to continue praying to the RNG god that they will re-release the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games in HD (while not becoming fluffy) next. Why the RNG god? because I used to play WoW, and that is the only god I know of to pray to.

"Titles for Xbox 360 must ship at least simultaneously with other video game platform, and must have at least feature and content parity on-disc with the other video game platform versions in all regions where the title is available. If these conditions are not met, Microsoft reserves the right to not allow the content to be released on Xbox 360."

Oh yea, because Microsoft is so good at making games and content having a simultaneously. They still got that stupid CoD DLC time exclusive thing, as well with a few other games and DLC, and now they say if Sony does that, they won't release some games? Stupid

I dunno. On the one hand, as far as PSN/XBLA titles go, I don't think Microsoft is missing anything. There are only a handful of completely PSN exclusive small scale titles that don't suck, and most of them either require Playstation Move or are IPs owned by Sony anyway. Basically, Microsoft is saying "We don't want crap like Flower or Joe Danger" and honestly, after trying those games out, I don't blame them.

On the other hand, it still seems really childish. Sure, they make it sound all reasonable and mature, but it's still just about down there with EA's constant flaming of Modern Warfare 3 on the maturity scale.

SendMeNoodz84:
Good thing about having every console: Things like this don't matter.

Indeed.

Uhm, are you stuck in 2006 or something? PS3 gets plenty of support these days.

I look through the comments, and there seems to be a general consensus that this a bad thing- or to be more precise - an idiotic thing on Microsoft's part. And I have to wholeheartedly agree. I'm not an Xbox fanboy or only loyal to Microsoft - far from it, I honestly don't care who the console is made by. I simply have a 360 because the console, and the games, are cheaper than their PS3 counterparts.

Saying all this, is anyone really surprised? I thought that it had been obvious from the get-go that both consoles would release console specific games. I congratulated Sony on getting Mass Effect 2 to the PS3 but I think that's the one exception I've ever seen to this rule. Yes, it's petty, but then it was petty when they did it on the xbox and PS2 consoles (albeit to a lesser degree, but nonetheless) and I find this to be nothing more than a stating of the status quo. Basically put: "Oh well".

Well, business is business and it's working for Microsoft so it makes perfect sense to continue with it.

Although I won't complain, because the360 is my main gaming console, I will say this seems like a very childish policy.

Even though they say it's good for everyone, it isn't. It's nothing more than being a hypocrite: "If a version is better on the PS3, we don't want it. But if it's not better on the 360, we don't want it either. It's better for the gamers." How is it better for the gamers if it hurts those who have only the money to buy one console and have picked their console based on the fact that they like Sony's exclusives more than they like Microsoft's?

M$ needs to stop their BS.

Look, no offence, but I think you're skewing things with your headline and the wording of your article.

Microsoft say that they reserve the right to not publish games that come to their platform later. That is not the same as outright saying that they're not going to publish games that come to their platform later. Final Fantasy was a series that started with Nintendo, then jumped ship to Sony, and Microsoft seemed pretty happy letting that series on board. Same with GTA- originally you could only play GTA on a PS1/PS2, but they later installments got ported to the Xbox, and GTA IV was released on the 360 with its own follow-up DLC. Hell, Metal Gear Solid: Rising is coming to 360 as well as PS3.

Microsoft has already accepted Sony's 'sloppy seconds' just as Sony has accepted Microsoft's 'sloppy seconds'.

sephiroth1991:
I have come to a conclusion that Sony is bad with its customers, Microsoft are dicks to there's and Nintendo are Customer's Bitches. Well that my opinion. Its a shame that Xbox gamers don't get a chance to play Sony's games.

I LOVE Sony SO MUCH and I HATE Microsoft SO MUCH. Microsoft strikes me as a scam, while Sony strikes me as garage band that got famous on youtube and still manages to give us what we really want.

But then, as I've said so often on these forums, I'm not a fanboy of anything (cept battlefield and The Elder Scrolls), I just REALLY hate Microsoft/the 360 and have not heard a valid argument as to why the 360 is a superior console...... >.>
