"Flame" Virus Freaking Out Cybersecurity Personnel Worldwide

Grimh:
Oh god! Windows installed some updates as I turned of my computer last night!

FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

So did mine and my computer has been running a little slow too...

Yeah, no, I never trust Windows Updates anyway; all they do is steal valuable memory from my computer without giving anything back in return. >.>
Also, my bet's always on the CIA and/or DARPA with this sort of thing. And this exactly is why we need legal infrastructure surrounding cyber affairs! This kinda thing is getting eerily close to 1984 for my liking...

Strazdas:
I read all windows update descriptions and chose what to install. yesterday a update poped up with "certificate unverifier" and along those lines and my thinking was "i dont want microsoft to have its say about what certificates i trust, to hell with it" and so i avoided the virus :D

Therefore you just ignored the exact update that is meant to address this virus.

Aeshi:
Glad the only thing I ever use Windows for is Steam (and that I haven't had the updater on for months...)

There's no reason ever for anyone to ignore security updates.

Now, now, that's all conjecture. What we need to do is stay calm and- hmm... my internet's been running a little poorly since last month and I'm sure I had a Windows Update around that time... *exerts great thinking power* OH NO! 0.0

lacktheknack:
Right as I read this, my Windows "You have new updates" box popped up.

Le sigh.

Anyways, this is scary. I hope Microsoft removes the updater loophole quickly.

BUT WAIT!!! You'd have to use updater to get the loop hole fix!

... Yes. We all have a classified virus on our computer that is monitoring us. Never mind that it has been found exclusively in the Middle East and is most likely to spy on hostile foreign governments. I'm sure they would much rather look at the super important itel gathered from these forums.

So the tactic if you have this is the same as the one to get a Mind Reader to leave, throw your mind as deeply into the gutter as possible and enjoy the look on their face?

Or just throw twelve zetabytes of explicit images at them. Right EDI?

Still, as for the person who actually came up with this thing, I am impressed. That's not a easy kind of virus to stay under the radar this long. Now please, make something even more impressive.

That should keep em busy for awhile. He said hopefully.

I am confused, why is everyone freaking out? This virus appears to be used for spying on military enemies of whoever. So, as others say, i dont think anyone is interested on your visits to the escapist or which games you play.

It wasnt marked as a "Security update" though. and its not like i plan to catch such virus anyway. you cant catch him if you dont isntall the thing it needs to be isntalled.
also, shall we remember when microsoft update crashed around 50% in one day due to failed update? id rather wiat a month and skip the updates that ruin my setup.

Isn't this old news? I heard about it a week ago on NPR.....

Anyway, it is a major concern, and I really am interested in hearing anything more there is on this.

I'm going to guess there isn't a person, so much as another computer, sifting through the data.

They're monitoring the middle east? If they haven't seen goat porn before, they probably will now. Wasn't it reported that even the higher ups of the terrorist organisations over there watched it?

I don't even think we need to leave on our disgusting stuff. The middle east has it covered.

Edit: The goat stuff might actually be a myth, whoopsie.

Hazy992:
I hate reading shit like this as I always get overly paranoid, especially as Windows installed an update last night O_o

Who would fuck with Vegeta? You'll be fine.

I'm not sure if that was just meant to be a really offensive joke...

This thing is a monster. Fortunetly, as someone mentioned earlier, it focuses on middle eastern states and its computer systems. I hardly think private computers, especielly in the west, are at any considerable risk.

...until the great retaliation, that is. Dun dun duuuuuuuuuuun!

Well, before I get a warning for something that some people might actually think was a joke.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/who-was-watching-porn-at-the-obl-compound/ - Here's proof they watch a lot of porn over there from their leader.

Suppose the goat porn is one of those internet myths. It was quite common to hear back when they found he watched porn.

I heard that some believe that the virus already has a much more advanced successor. Scary stuff.

I am inclined to believe this is simply an act by the U.S. to discredit the man and disillusion his followers. The way it's written and the examples given feel very staged and even somewhat too naive, as if they are pretending far too much to be surprised.

Remember: assume everything the government and media tell you is a lie, because it probably is, lol.

pyrokin:
We need to start punishing the people that actually do spy on us using stuff like this. For those of you who've already installed recent Windows updates, I recommend leaving some sort of vile, disgusting porn on that Yahtzee wouldn't even want to watch. Imagine, having to sit at a computer watching something like that for an entire work day. Make them pay for stuff like this >:D

What if the guy looking at it is from 4chan's /b/ board! Then we're all DOOMED!

Or as Bender would put it, DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDD

Don't worry, the UK gov's got it covered. That's why I'm studying a uni course barely 2 years old.

Cybersecurity and Forensics - The Ying to the Cyber-Crime/Warfare/Terrorism Yang.

It's awesome. I get taught to comb over computers for malicious data, information and criminal activity, and counter-hack and stuff that I'd prefer not to go into detail.

When I graduate, I will make the internet and electronic infrastructure safe for you to use. HELL YEAH.

Currently, you can only get this virus if you plug in an infected USB flash storage device. Though that's not to say there aren't undiscovered variant floating around the internet.

Isn't it ironic how my old, slow PC freezes for a half-second at a time, every minute? Who knows why I would be infected, I'm a do-gooder with good morals!

Firstly, It is Yin, not Ying. Secondly Yin is Dark and Yang is light, not the other way around. Had a good laugh at how your post makes it seem like you think Terrorism is good :P. Alot of people make that mistake so I'm sure everyone gathered your meaning....or did they? O.o
