Halo 4 Leaked

If you bleed while making a video game you either have a bad complexion like I do OR you are doing something wrong.

"So wait, a razor blade keyboard is not the only way to go?! :o"

Sylveria:
"The internet is an awesome place... until it's no longer an awesome place."

Paraphrased: "Freedom is good till it affects our bottom line."

That paraphrase is the statement from basically every business that was once small and is now big.

Poor guys at 343 studios... They make their first game in which is on top of that a legacy series like Halo and it gets pirated 3 weeks before they can even ship the game. Got to feel bad about that for them.

Heh. Leek.

webepoop:
Master Chief takes off his suit. Turns out he's two midgets standing on each other's shoulders.

This is interesting. How do two people stand on each others' shoulders at the same time? Do they take turns, or does one have to handstand?

The Rookie Gamer:
Yeah, I've seen a few of the spoilers, and they've already had full streams of the game. A bit depressing, to be honest.
I'm curious as to who and/or where they got the disks from.

10 bucks says the guy speaks fluent french and is not from canada

Oh no Halo 4 might lose some of it's mega cash...Well actually it's sad because we are that much further from living on microsoft's mine planets as someone F@#$ing called. Everyone might have gotten three square meals in such a future, and I might have ended up working next to my favorite Australian with a chip on his shoulder. Well I've officialy met my morbid quota for the day so for something happy checkout. http://soundcloud.com/circletree-productions

I'm sorry but it's out there now and they'll never stop it. Especially since it happened 3 whole weeks before the game is set to come out. Sorry, Microsoft, but the pirates win this round. Better luck next time with Halo V! :-)

Maybe they should scramble for an earlier release. You know, one that isn't on Election Day.

Sorry. I'm not saying they deserved to be pirated because of it, but someone should have thought twice about that one.

I hear that at the end, MC takes his mask off and you get to pick whether his eyes are Red, Green, or Blue, but it makes no difference. ;)

Why can't they just be honest? Is it so hard to say "we want your money so don't d/l the leaks"? Instead they feed us this "piracy is evil, you won't experience the real game if you play a leak" nonsense. We all know by now some people will never buy the game, leak or not, and it's better to ignore those people and after all, they might love the game and spread the news to prospective purchasers.

llubtoille:
Microsoft as a business probably doesn't care terribly much, as you said they'll still cash in on this either way.
However this does cause them to loose face in general, it shows they're susceptible to such leaks.
The ones who are probably most disapointed with the leak would be the makers who for the last three+ years have poured their efforts into making the game, their glorious unveiling has now been rather tarnished.

A bit like if a famous artist spent three years painting something in secrecy, then a month before it's finished someone sneaks in and snaps a shot of it.
Everyone who's interested will see this unfinished piece of work and judge it as the final product; in addition it will prematurely burn public interest, so by the time the actual piece is unveiled, most will say 'yeah we saw that a month ago' and not be interested.

TLDR: it's not always about the money.

to be fair this is a gold disk, unlike PC digital xbox has to press teh final game over a month before release to ensure it gets to the stores on time.

if it was digital only you would be right, most of those only gold master the week before release and then work on a day 1 patch.

the funnist part is how console is coming full circle and becoming more like PC every week, now game release unfinished and are patched, you have to install them, there is more and more DRM and account locking. it makes me sad :(

Beneath the armour Master Chief is a woman who used voice modulation to sound like a man because all the uber-macho troops she interacts with wouldn't respect her otherwise.

The Covenant has a bunch of infiltrators disguised as humans in the Earth command structure. They have a plan.

The Arbiter returns.

Okay, I'm done.

I never have/will invest in anything Halo except Arby n' the Chief/RvB, but even I think this is a raw deal if true. These new guys have repeatedly expressed their care in trying to craft something that will live up to Bungie's reputation. If sales don't at least match Reach they'll probably get canned by Microsoft, and now their proverbial thunder is being stolen before they're even close to being finished.

I heard that Master Chief's real name is Chaster Mief, so named because he was a monk, and practiced chastity. His friends called him "Mief". Also it turns out all the covenant have blood that cures every disease known to man and dolphin.

And Sergeant Johnson dies again. After being revived. Whereupon he is revived. Then killed. Again.

Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach all were leaked before their release dates in (if sources are correct) fairly similar situations, so 343 shouldn't be worried or affected.

It's Halo 4: It will sell like hotcakes even if it says on the box that it is now a platformering RPG with racing elements.

... Master Chief Guitar Hero would be amazing...

Grey Carter:

Of course, the answer to spoilers is simply to flood the internet with fake claims to make picking out the real ones impossible. I've heard that the game features segments where Master Chief battles aliens with the power of song.

Please, that is such an obviously fake claim. What really will happen that Master Chief will join forces with Mario, Dexter, and sexual harrasment Fluttershy to beat the alien scum with tubas.

doesn't the Master Chief always battle aliens with the power of song?

oh wait no that was just my co-op buddy being silly :P

Master Chief crash lands on the Forerunner home-world of Jomama. His ship ends up crash landing on the Log Cabin that was birth place of the Forerunners greatest leader, Gerk de Chamdiland. This is interpreted as an act of war, causing the government to put a large bounty on Master Chief.

Master Chief shoots a bunch of dudes while making his way down a linear path towards a giant temple. Here, he discovers that the Forerunners created The Flood as a weapon to deal with an ancient race of turtle-like alien creatures known as the Space Ants. The Flood succeeded, but became too much for the Forerunners to handle, which prompted the creation of the Halos. Master Chief then hijacks a Forerunner Tank and drives down a linear path way to the next conveniently placed plot point location.

While this is going on, UNSC authorities are interrogating the doctor in charge of the SPARTAN project. She is eventually revealed to be a shape-shifting rabbit from the year 3954. Her original intention was to go back in time to 1986 so she could use her rabbit majics to help the Chicago Cubs win the World Series, which would have removed a powerful curse placed on her people by the Space Ants. Unfortunately, rabbits aren't very good at math, and she wound up in the year 2521 instead. In order to buy the fuel she needed to power her time machine, she took a job as a mad scientist.

Meanwhile, Master Chief continues to thrust his way around Jomama. He arrives at a space elevator, where is attacked by the Forerunners most fearsome warrior, Rick. Rick severely injures Master Chief, then drags him into the space elevator. On the way up, Rick tells the story of how the Forerunners survived the Halo detonations through the use of not actually detonating the Halos in the first place. Master Chief, now completely recovered from his injuries after waiting six seconds, attacks and kills Rick, and then proceeds to make his aboard a Forerunner spaceship as it begins to depart.

Back on Earth, a number of space ships begin to appear. The Fourrunners are attacking, and all of humanity is still hungover from celebrating the end of the last war. The ship Mister Chef was on arrives, and proceeds to kill a lot of dudes and blow stuff up. But he didn't kill all the dudes, so now you have to wait for Halo 5.

There, I just saved you sixty bucks. Now go buy a better game instead...

Sylveria:

So.. if the leak shows something shitty, it's bad. But if the leak show's something good, it's good?

Maybe the moral of the story is companies should stop pumping out garbage then blaming leaks for bad sales.

That would involve the kind of rational thought that any corporation with more then 20 people is basically incapable of.

llubtoille:

T3hSource:
Can somebody please explain to me why M$ is panicking? This leak can stir up much more hype than CGI trailers. If they think they are going to lose sales, they should be smoking a bit more money to realize that people are going to buy it anyway,be it 16-year olds or grandmas.
Sure it's not a complete build that's not representative of the final product, but some people want to see GAMEPLAY,has anything changed and is it good?
ME3 leaked,sold through the roof.Deus Ex:HR leaked half a year before release,still sold over a million.Crysis 2 leaked,still sold well for a sequel.
This is just PR peeing in their pants and nothing more,do they have to make it into a drama?

Microsoft as a business probably doesn't care terribly much, as you said they'll still cash in on this either way.

TLDR: it's not always about the money.

It's the gold (i.e. final) version of the game. It's about the money. Since most people buy Halo for the multiplayer, sales could only be affected if the game gets negative reviews before people have a chance to buy it.

Sylveria:

The game industry still hasn't taken to heart that if your product is good, you won't need to worry about potential losses through piracy. Sure, there are rare exceptions (World of Goo, Crysis 2), but most of the time, piracy figures make up such a small margin (often less than 1 percent) that the potential benefits far outweigh the cons.

It's been the case with television shows for years - every new TV series that had episodes/seasons leaked before their air dates (Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Prison Break) had huge ratings/DVD sales boosts. Speaking as someone who used to download movies in the past, I found that most of what I saw wasn't even worth the money. I bought products I liked afterwards, and invested heavily in them.

I like how the thumbnail to this article was the Leakspin. Very funny.

A video game got leeked, now THERE's a surprise.

Should I sell back Halo 3 yet? Apparently they are not watching the Halo 3 servers anymore because theere are hackers left and right all over multiplayer now. In a month, it won't matter because the population will move to the next game.

3 Years PPPH Riiiight. You mean you used textures from 3 years ago maybe.

It has been lurking on the torrent sites since 13th, well thats hardly news since most xbox games get leaked really early.

Mygaffer:
But I thought only PC games got leaked early, because of, you know, piracy and junk.

Yeah people tend to forget or ignore when console games get leaked and pirated to death but still cling to PC gaming as a holy grail of pirates. Funny thing is I don't have a single friend that pirates PC games but I know quite a few people that have less than legal methods for their xbox. Irony is delicious.

Karmas a bitch, Microsoft.

Apparently the original picture was funny but now it's an actual picture of the game. Either way nobody wants to see a game leaked.

And I can't help but think of this clip:

I've played all the previous Halo games and enjoyed them. At this point I'm vested enough in the world/franchise/story/thing that I will buy Halo 4 to see how they continue it. The only question is do I buy it on launch day, later when the price drops, pre-order a special edition, etc? As bad as the whole leak is, I'd be curious to see some reviews of the game to help me decide.

Ya, piracy does not hurt anyone. The most anticipated game and now we have too avoid spoilers like the Plague. TY, pirate turd wipes, TY for screwing people for no real reason but too be trolls.

How were these leaked? Was a shipping truck hijacked or maybe someone stole mass quantities of it. How?

I just finished the game on insanely difficult nightmare mode; it was okay, not great.
The plot is just a mess, from Master Chief taking off his helmet to a cross-over with Mass Effect

The ending was well done though; they split it up among several difficulties and you have to piece it together, although my favorite boss was the giant chicken robot which you fight with laser swords.

Also open-world mode, THE BEST; seriously I was playing and was like, I wish this had some skyrim in it; what do you know; It happened. Though the vampires were a bit much.

Why can't people just wait anymore? Everything has to be leaked now-a-days. It's getting rather annoying...

This is certainly a surprise, given that Halo: Reach leaked (by Xbox Live), Halo 3 leaked, Halo 2 leaked 27 days before street date.. and the list of games that haven't leaked are: all of the games that aren't sent into a distribution chain for national/global rollout. And that don't have someone in the development process who stuck a copy on a disc/stick.

If you want your game to be safe, make sure no one wants it and no one can get it. Not to condone it, death to piracy :/
